SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University Softball continues its first homestand of 2023 this weekend with a doubleheader against Hanover College (IN) on Friday.
The Tigers (1-11) started last weekend with their first win of the season—an impressive 3-1 defeat of No. 18 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas—but dropped the second game of the doubleheader. No. 20 Babson College was able to keep Trinity out of the win column Sunday morning to conclude the Beavers' weekend visit to south Texas.
Senior
Emery Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) had an outstanding weekend and played a large role in the Tigers' win over the 18
th-ranked Crusaders on Saturday. She yielded just one run on five hits without walking a batter in the win over UMHB. Boettcher went 1-1 on the weekend, falling to 20th-ranked Babson despite allowing just two earned runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings.
Sophomore
Jessie Lloyd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) was a big leader of the Tigers' offense and went 5-for-12 on the weekend, hitting .417 and posted a .533 on-base percentage.
Preview: Hanover (Mar. 3)
On the Panthers: The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) coaches picked Hanover to finish third in the HCAC this season, behind Transylvania University (KY) and Mount St. Joseph University (OH), that latter of whom received votes in the preseason National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll. Last season, the Panthers finished 17-19 after falling to the aforementioned teams in their conference tournament.
Alongside the HCAC's preseason poll, the conference noted four members of Hanover's team as players to watch this season, including sophomore pitcher Lauren Beaman. In their opening weekend, Beaman pitched 20 innings and allowed only three runs, posting a 0.70 ERA on three complete games.
Hanover kicked off their season this past weekend in Illinois going 1-3 start to the year. Their lone win came on Sunday against University of the Ozarks (AR) after dropping their second Saturday game to No. 8 Millikin University (IL).
Looking Ahead: Continued Home Action, First SCAC Play
Trinity Softball will continue its battle against ranked opponents with one more weekend at home, facing No. 25 Piedmont University on March 11 to open spring break.
A trip to Georgetown, Texas on March 17 opens another road-stint for the Tigers as they start conference play, facing Southwestern University followed by Schreiner University the following weekend.
