SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University Softball fell 8-4 to DePauw University (IN) Thursday night in the final non-conference contest of the 2023 campaign.
The Tigers (5-20) posted a three-run second inning to take an early lead that lasted into the fourth, but the visiting Tigers of DePauw (5-13) were able to tally in all but the first and seventh innings to outlast their host.
A pair of first-years led the way from the plate as second baseman
Angela Baltzell (Antioch, Calif. / Freedom) posted a two-for-three day that featured a two-RBI base hit that took the early 3-1 lead in the second. Rightfielder
Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) was the only TU Tiger to reach base three times in the contest through a two-for-two effort in the box along with a walk, plating the first Trinity run of the game.
Junior first baseman
Jordyn Williams (Clayton, Calif. / Valley Charter) added two hits of her own in four appearances, notching a RBI double in the third to reclaim the lead, 4-3.
Junior pitcher
Bella Gutierrez (Devine, Texas / Devine) posted a four-inning effort as the night's starter pitching the first three innings to one earned run, then returned in the seventh to keep DePauw off the board for the first time since the opening inning. Senior
Emery Boettcher (Fredericksburg, Texas / Fredericksburg) took the loss as the second arm into the game after a four-out appearance.
Trinity Softball returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader against visiting Centenary College, the first two of a three-game conference series this weekend. Saturday's action is slated for a Noon first pitch.
