SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University Softball heads back out on the road this weekend (April 7-8) to visit University of St. Thomas in Houston for its next three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series.
The Tigers (7-21; 4-5 SCAC) collected victories in the second and third outings of each of the last two weekend series at Schreiner University (March 24-25) and against Centenary College (April 1-2) to win both of the last two SCAC series.
Junior pitcher
Brooke Porter (Carmel, Ind. / Heritage Christian) picked up both her first victory and first start since 2021 after missing the entirety of 2022 due to injury in last weekend's series against the Ladies, including both victories in the circle for the weekend.
First-year outfielder
Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) posted a .533 average in last week's six-game homestand, including a five-for-six day, driving in four runs in Saturday's doubleheader.
Junior newcomer
Bella Gutierrez (Devine, Texas / Devine) picked up Trinity's second save of the season with five clean outs to finish the Centenary series on Sunday.
The Tigers rank third in NCAA III in double plays turned this season, which also leads the SCAC. Trinity is also top-50 in walks (21
st) and hits (42
nd).
In the circle, Porter and first-year
Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) ranked 24
th and 16
th in NCAA III in total appearances this season, a category Arce also leads the SCAC.
Preview: H-Town Showdown
On the Celts: St. Thomas will enter this weekend's SCAC series tied for the conference lead with No. 4 Texas Lutheran University with an 8-1 league record, 20-6 overall.
Four Celts notably register within the NCAA III stats leaderboard thus far season, led by Rebecca Archibald as the SCAC leader in batting average (.507) and on-base percentage (.560), marks that rank No. 24 and No. 50 in NCAA III, respectively. In addition, the rookie outfielder is No. 13 in NCAA III in stolen bases per game.
Rookie catcher Chloe Bennett ranks as the toughest player to strike out in the SCAC, 16
th in NCAA III, as she has struck out just once this season through 79 at-bats.
The pitching duo of senior Bailey Tisdale and first-year Allison Hughes have combined for six complete-game shutouts this season—three apiece, each ranking No. 11 in NCAA III—which makes St. Thomas the No. 12 team in NCAA III in the category.
Aside from their SCAC season-opening 2-1 loss at Centenary (March 18), the Celts have been on a tear through conference play winning all but one contest by four runs or more, sweeping Austin College with three abbreviated games March 24-25.
In the Hole: Another Six-Game Homestand, #4 TLU and Dallas Incoming
Trinity Softball returns from Houston this upcoming weekend to host No. 4 Texas Lutheran—the other current SCAC standings leader—and University of Dallas the weekends of April 14-15 and April 21-22.
The 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship will be hosted by Trinity May 5-7 at the newly-renovated TU Softball Field.
