LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Tiger men's and women's track & field teams resumed their indoor schedules at the McNeese Indoor II meet hosted by McNeese State University on Thursday and Friday.
Trinity had several top-10 performances at the meet, despite going up against some Division I competition. There were 10 Tiger performances that landed in the top three, including a pair of event winners on the men's side.
Azariah Anderson (Saint Charles, Mo. / Francis Howell North) won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.89 seconds, while
Diego Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Great Hearts Monte Vista North) paced a total of six Tigers in the top 10 of the men's 3,000-meter run with his winning time of 8:52.34. Anderson also finished eighth in the 55-meter dash prelims with a time of 6.88 seconds.
The 3K ended up being one of the most successful events of the day for Trinity, with five women joining the six men's runners to finish in the top 10.
Jackson White (Boerne, Texas / Boerne) finished as the runner-up to Flores on the men's side, clocking in at 8:54.41.
Ellie Catron (Spring, Texas / The Woodlands Christian) was the top women's runner with a time of 10:37.66 that earned her a bronze-medal finish.
The Tiger distance runners also enjoyed a successful run in the mile as both
Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) and
Will Salony (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) finished as the runner-up in the women's and men's races, respectively. Salony hit the line in 4:11.96 in the men's race, while Gurule posted a time of 5:16.43 in the women's event.
Emily Gnecco (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) also turned in a third-place performance behind Gurule in the mile, finishing in 5:38.71.
CC Gray (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep) was also second in the women's 400-meter dash, notching a time of 1:00.01 in the race, with
Vanessa Garcia (Seguin, Texas / Navarro) and
Lillian Broussard (Houston, Texas / National Christian) also finishing seventh and eighth.
Price Schultea (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Christian) and
Justin Johnson (Houston, Texas / Manvel) also earned top-five times in the men's 400.
Joy Areola (Tomball, Texas / Rosehill Christian) was third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump on Friday. She leapt 11.36 meters in the triple jump, while also marking at 5.39 meters in the long jump.
Victoria Baker (San Antonio, Texas / Alamo Heights),
Kaelin Leishman (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton North), and
Maddy Wietstruck (Houston, Texas / Northland Christian) all tied for third in the women's pole vault after clearing 3.05 meters.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Johnson,
Grant Bishop (Geronimo, Texas / Navarro),
Jackson Gallagher (Ft. Worth, Texas / Southwest Christian), and Schultea raced to a time of 3:26.74 at the end of the night, finishing in third place.
Legend Grigsby (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek) qualified for the finals with his time of 6.72 seconds in the 55-meter dash, then finished fourth overall with a time of 6.63 seconds in the finals.
Kris Duggan (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) and
Trent Svacina (Alamo Heights, Texas / Alamo Heights) tied for fourth in the men's high jump, reaching 1.80 meters.
Seth Jacobs (Santa Fe, Texas / Santa Fe) earned fifth place in the pole vault after clearing 4.05 meters.

"This was our first time in this facility and I thought we handled running on a non-banked track really well," said Head Coach
Marcus Whitehead. "Combined with the effort and competitiveness we brought, some really strong marks were set. I'm excited to see this team keep up the in-meet energy as we move forward with the season."
