Tiger Women's Basketball Aims For Victory In Home Matchups Against St. Thomas and Centenary

Trinity University Women's Basketball brings their squad back into Calgaard Gym to finish off the first round of conference play.

The Tigers (10-5) split their most recent conference games as they dominated Schreiner by over 30 points but dropped their matchup against Colorado College 49-63. The backcourt duo of Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Oregon / Valley Catholic) and Jamie Ruede (Pipe Creek, Texas / Boerne) would both drop 22 points on near-identical shooting lines against Schreiner and senior Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) would put in a near triple-double against Colorado College. With the loss to Colorado, the Tigers drop down to third in the SCAC standing but are one of three teams with only one conference loss.

Preview - There's No Place Like Home

The Tigers will open their homestand against the University of St. Thomas on Friday, January 12th at 7:30 PM, and then will have a quick turnaround to play against Centenary College on Saturday, January 13th at 6:00 PM.

On the St. Thomas Celts: The Celts hold a 4-11 (2-4 SCAC) record so far this season. The Celts started their season 0-6 before picking up their first win against Howard Payne. The Celts have found a small groove as of late, picking up three wins in their last five games. However, the Celts have dropped their two most recent games against LeTourneau and Colorado College. Offensively, the Celts have struggled. The Celts are only averaging 54 points per game this season. On the flip side, the Celts are only allowing 60 points per game so their defense has been playing well consistently. The Celts are led by junior guard Ravyn Ellis. Ellis is the only Celt averaging double-digit scoring this season, but is only shooting 36 percent from the field and 18 percent from behind the arc. The Tigers are 7-1 all time against the Celts since their first game in the 2019-2020 season and have won the last six matchups.

On the Centenary Ladies: The Ladies are 1-13 (0-6 SCAC) this season. The Ladies picked up their only win of the season against Hendrix College on November 25th. Besides that 80-point outing, the Ladies have only scored 60 or more points one other time this season. The Ladies have been outscored by opponents 1022-745. The Ladies are a young team, as well, with only one player being upperclassmen on the roster. The Ladies are led by sophomore guard Amiyah Barrow. Barrow has been the lone bright spot on this Ladies team as she is averaging 12.3 points per game on 45 percent shooting. All time, the Tigers are 21-0 against the Ladies and took last year's matchup 96-46.

Keys to the Game

Home Warriors: The Tigers are undefeated in Calgaard Gym so far this season. The Tigers have had their top four scoring games at home this season and feed off of the energy in Calgaard. With the Tigers facing a decent defensive team in St. Thomas, look for them to use that energy to put up big numbers offensively.

Winning the Rebound Battle: The Tigers are at a -7.2 rebound margin this season. However, the Ladies do not have any player listed at 6-foot or above. Look for the Tigers to crash the boards hard and players such as Elaine King (Cedar Park, Texas / Cedar Park) and Natalie Greenwood (Dallas, Texas / Byron Nelson) to play a big role in getting the Tigers second chance opportunities.

Looking Ahead - To The House

The Tigers will play in the last two games of their four-game homestand when they play Southwestern and Texas Lutheran on January 19th and 20th.
