Trinity University Softball will take on a duo of ASC opponents this weekend when they take on Hardin-Simmons and McMurry.

The Tigers (4-2) split games against the 16th-ranked East Texas Baptist. Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) was on fire. Arce would go 4-5 at the plate with 7 RBIs and two monster home runs. Arce would also get it done in the circle as well, throwing a complete game and fanning six. Freshman Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) would have a great day at the plate as well, going 4-7 with an RBI and a double.

SCAC Pitcher of the Week - Jordan Arce

For the first time this season, sophomore Jordan Arce has been selected as the SCAC Pitcher of the Week.

From the SCAC Press Release:

Arce nabbed a pair of complete-game victories last week, leading Trinity to a 3-1 record against Howard Payne and 16th-ranked East Texas Baptist in the first home games of the year. Arce posted a 2.00 ERA after allowing just four earned runs over 14.0 innings pitched to improve to 3-0 this season from the circle. She tossed a three-hit shutout to open a Tuesday DH against Howard Payne, striking out seven batters to jump-start a DH sweep. Against #16 ETBU, Arce salvaged a DH split with a complete-game victory in the Saturday finale, allowing four earned runs on eight hits, and striking out six batters.

Preview - Double Double-Header

Trinity will be at the Tiger Softball Field against Hardin-Simmons on Friday, February 23rd at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Then, McMurry will come into town to play on Saturday, February 24th at noon and 2:00 PM.

On the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls: Hardin-Simmons is 4-0 to start the season. The Cowgirls decimated the University of Dallas 14-1 and 13-2. HSU would then defeat Centenary 3-2 and 7-3. Through the four games, the Cowgirls have been shoving. The pitching staff has put up a 1.35 ERA through 26 innings. Offensively, HSU is batting .385 as a team. The Cowgirls have added freshman outfielder Emily Jacobs to their lineup and she can mash. Jacobs is batting .462 with four doubles and a homerun. The caveat to those stats is that the Hardin-Simmons staff will not produce a lot of strikeouts so the Tigers will have the opportunity to see lots of pitches in the zone that they can hit hard. The Tigers are 11-8 all-time against Hardin-Simmons and 7-4 when at home.

On the McMurry Warhawks: The Warhawks are 2-0 coming into San Antonio. McMurry picked up a pair of opening day wins against the University of St. Thomas, including a 1-0 shutout in game two. Junior pitcher Baylee Fulps would throw a complete game, only allowing five hits and walking none. Leading the offense was junior second baseman Jade Dickens. Dickens went 5-6 in the opening series and collected two RBIs. The thing about the Warhawk offense is that they did not slug very well, only tallying one extra base hit. Also, they only attempted three stolen bases. So, the Tiger defense may try to take away the short line drive and squeeze the holes to prevent seeing-eye singles. All time, the Tigers are 3-5 against McMurry and are 1-3 at home.

Key To The Game

Steal: The Tigers only stole five bases in their doubleheader against ETBU. The Tigers have good bats that can bring in runners in the blink of an eye so look for Trinity baserunners to be aggressive on the bags early to get into scoring position for those hot bats.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will head to Southwestern to play against George Fox on Saturday, March 2nd and then return home to play Lewis & Clark on Sunday, March 3rd.
