Trinity University Softball is on the hunt for more SCAC action as they take on the University of Dallas.
The Tigers (16-9) are coming off a series loss to the University of St. Thomas. Trinity won 4-3 in a game one thriller but UST came back to win games two and three. However, the Tigers had many bright spots including Marina Delaluna (Concord, California / Concord) going 3-9 (.333) and Angela Baltzell (Antioch, California / Freedom) going 4-9 (.444). Senior Jordyn Williams (Clayton, California / Clayton Valley Charter) also broke the career record for walks. Trinity now sits in third place in the SCAC standings at 4-2 behind first-place Texas Lutheran and second-place St. Thomas.
Preview - Tigers Vs Crusaders
The Tigers will travel to Irving for a doubleheader on Friday, March 29th at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The series will conclude on Saturday, March 30th at noon.
On the Dallas Crusaders: Dallas is 3-15 (0-5 SCAC) so far in 2024. Dallas picked up a win against Arlington Baptist in late February and then notched two wins against La Roche in March. In SCAC play, the Crusaders dropped two games to Centenary and were then crushed by Texas Lutheran. Dallas had two shining spots in a lineup that features ZERO seniors. Sophomore Abby Lasley is batting .426 in 61 at bats and has only struck out four times so far. Behind her is freshman Gianna Alvarez who is hitting .345 so far but does have an extra-base hit. Dallas will also lean on the arms of underclassmen pitchers Ava Trevino and SunnyDale Thies. Both pitchers are sports ERAs of about 4.50. The Crusader staff is prone to giving up many hits as opponents are batting above .400 against them this season. A big hole in the Dallas defense is the left side of the infield. As a team with a .899 fielding percentage, most of that lies on a shortstop that is fielding at a ..857 clip and a third baseman that fields at .721. All time, the Tigers are 35-11 against UD and are 14-4 when playing in Irving.
Key to the Game
See It Up: With the UD staff having such a high opponent batting average, look for the middle of the Trinity lineup to do some damage. With the hot bats of Williams and Delaluna lurking, there is potential for them to put balls in the gaps and the Tigers to put up plenty of runs.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will be back home to play another in-conference opponent in Austin College on April 6th and 7th.
