Track & Field Teams Shine at Texas Relays and Bobcat Invite

AUSTIN/SAN MARCOS – The Tiger men's and women's track & field teams finished the holiday weekend by competing at both the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas and Texas State University.

There were seven Trinity runners at the Texas Relays and all enjoyed outstanding days on the track. Orie Piken (Torrance, Calif. / West Torrance) and Legend Grigsby (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek) both ran the 100-meter dash against top competition. Piken finished in 10.86 seconds for a new personal record that puts him eighth in school history. Grigsby crossed the line in 10.93 seconds, which is just 0.02 seconds from his own PR that was in the top 10. The 4x400-meter relay team of Price Schultea (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Christian), Nicolas Ladreyt (Santa Monica, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake School), Jackson Gallagher (Ft. Worth, Texas / Southwest Christian), and Justin Johnson (Houston, Texas / Manvel) made their way into the Trinity record books as well. The quartet finished ninth in the race with a time of 3:18.68 that puts them into the school's all-time top 10. Azariah Anderson (Saint Charles, Mo. / Francis Howell North) also had a stellar run in the men's 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.35 seconds for 14th place among Division I competition. That's the third-fastest time of his career and his fastest time in the event this season.

Trinity also had several on the track and in field events at the Bobcat Invitational just down the road. The men's and women's 1500-meter run saw several new personal records for the men's and women's runners. Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) led the Tiger women with a time of 4:50.68 that is a new PR and is just outside the top 10 in school history, while Emma Elsbury (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Ranch) also notched a new personal best. Four Trinity men's runners had new personal records, beginning with Ryan Tresaugue (Spring, Texas / The Woodlands) and his time of 3:56.84. He was 11th in the race on Saturday, moving up to sixth all-time at Trinity. Also moving into the top 10 with a new PR was Sebastian Langer (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and his time of 3:58.84 that was also in the top 20. Joseph Herlin (Ft. Worth, Texas / Boswell) tied his PR with a time of 4:00.69, while Walt Petersen (Winston-Salem, N.C. / Reynolds) finished in 4:05.48 for a new personal best.

In the hammer, Kate Ballengee (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque School) threw 40.57 meters for a new PR that keeps her in the top three in school history. Jordan Ayala (San Juan, Texas / Edinburg) reached 37.77 meters for a new PR that improves on his previous mark that had him eighth in school history.
