Trinity University Softball opens their 2024 conference play against Schreiner University this weekend.

The Tigers (8-5) went 2-1 on the previous weekend. Trinity had an 8-0 comeback against George Fox and then split the Sunday series against Lewis & Clark. The Tiger wins were backed by two clutch pitching performances by a pair of freshmen. Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy of Arts Careers and Technology) threw four innings and only allowed one run in the game against George Fox, allowing the Tigers to get a bulk of their runs back. In game two against Lewis & Clark, Cameron Bishop (Austin, Texas / Stephen F. Austin) threw a complete game with no earned runs and striking out five. At the plate, Peyton Bowser (Arvada, Colorado / West) hit to the tune of a.571 batting average (4-7) and a .700 (7-10) on-base percentage.

Preview - Conference Opener

The Tigers will start their series against Schreiner with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 9th at noon and 2:00 PM, and then Sunday, March 10th at noon.

On the Schreiner Mountaineers: Schreiner has struggled to the tune of a 1-13 record so far this season. The Mountaineers picked up their lone win against Millsaps 10-1 on February 16th. The Schreiner staff has struggled this season, giving up more than 10 runs in half of their games. The offense also only has two consistent bats that are hitting over .300. Either way, Schreiner has inconsistencies on both sides of the ball. All time, the Tigers are 39-25 against the Mountaineers.

Key to the Game

Bags On Bags: The Mountaineers have struggled to find the zone this season, totaling 45 walks to just 21 strikeouts. This will allow the Tigers to be aggressive on the bases and get into scoring position with multiple steals. Just as Schreiner will try to adjust and find the zone, look for the Tigers to swing early and execute hit and runs to force an all-around struggling team to make plays.

Looking Ahead - Spring Breakers

The Tigers will hit spring break hard at home starting with a doubleheader against UMHB on March 12th.
