The Trinity University Softball team looks to raise the flag when they take on Southwestern this weekend.
The Tigers (22-9) swept Austin College in their previous series. With 22 wins under their belt, this marks the most wins in a season since 2016. The Tigers run ruled the Roos in two of the three games. Trinity won by a combined score of 23-5.
Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) was dynamite at the dish, batting .700 (7-10) on the weekend.
Marina Delaluna (Concord, California / Concord) went 5-9 (.555) which makes her 9-18 in her last two series.
Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy of Arts Careers and Technology) was dominant again in the circle as she tossed a complete game and gave up zero earned runs and gave up no free passes. Trinity is in second place in the SCAC standings, just one win behind first-place Texas Lutheran.
Preview - Raise The Tiger Flag
The Tigers will play against the Pirates starting with a single game on Friday, April 12th at 7:00 PM. Then, the two teams will face off against each other in a doubleheader on Saturday at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
On the Southwestern Pirates: The Pirates are 10-21 (7-5 SCAC) so far this season. Southwestern has found their stride recently as they have won six of their last nine games. The Pirates have also won their last three series against Schreiner, St. Thomas, and Centenary. Southwestern will rely heavily on tough pitching that only features two upperclassmen. Southwestern's Sophia Yuarte has a 3.75 ERA across 71 innings, has 1.51 WHIP, and has tossed four-straight complete games. With the sticks, the Pirates have five players that are batting over .300. This lineup is sneaky and can give defenses issues because they have minimal strikeouts offensively. The Tigers are 26-35 against Southwestern in all-time matchups.
Looking Ahead
The Tigers will travel to Seguin to take on Texas Lutheran on April 19th and 20th.
