Trinity University Softball is in for a test against Texas Lutheran this weekend.
The Tigers (25-9, 13-2 SCAC) swept the weekend against Southwestern. Trinity outscored Southwestern 10-4 and played stellar defense.
Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) had her hand in every game. During game one, she recorded the final out to earn the save. Then, she went the distance in the circle during game two to collect the win. Finally, in game three, she got it done as the dish by driving in the deciding run.
Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy for Arts Careers and Technology) threw a complete-game shutout in the final game in the series to bring her season record to 4-2 and making it 20 straight innings without an earned run.
Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) led Trinity offensively with a .444 (4-9) average for the weekend.
Preview - Cats vs Dogs
Trinity will travel to Seguin on Friday, April 19th, for a single game at 6:00 PM. The two squads will clash again the next day for a doubleheader at noon and 2:00 PM. This will be a battle of the top two SCAC teams as TLU is just one win ahead of the Tigers.
On the No. 14 Texas Lutheran Bulldogs: The Bulldogs are 23-2 (14-1 SCAC) this season. TLU has only dropped a game to Concordia (TX) and Southwestern. Other than that, dominated all other games with spectacular offense and pitching. TLU is hot with the sticks as no everyday player is batting below .340 and they lead the nation with a .406 team batting average. TLU singles and steals bags to beat teams as they only have 34 doubles compared to Trinity's 51. Defensively, the Bulldogs will also lean on senior Ashlyn Strother who has thrown 80 innings to the tune of a 1.05 ERA. However, TLU does tend to make errors so if the Tigers can put pressure on the defense, it could allow them to get some free bags. All time, Trinity is 25-66 against the Bulldogs.
On Deck
The Tigers will travel to Shreveport to take on Centenary on April 27th and 28th.
