Tiger Women's Basketball Returns Home For SCAC Doubleheader

Trinity University Women's Basketball comes back home to face off against Ozarks and Centenary. 
 
The Tigers (10-7, 6-2 SCAC) split their games last weekend. After a tough loss to McMurry, Trinity bounced back with a hard-fought 83-78 victory over Concordia. Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Oregon / Valley Catholic) led the way offensively, scoring 37 points across the weekend on 13-of-23 shooting, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. Against Concordia, Natalie Greenwood (Dallas, Texas / Byron Nelson) set a new career high with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting, while also grabbing seven rebounds. On the national stage, the Tigers rank 18th in field goal percentage, 16th in assists per game, and 10th in scoring offense.

The Tigers will start their weekend off against the University of the Ozarks on Friday, January 31st at 5:30 PM. Then, the Tigers will take on the Ladies of Centenary College on Saturday, February 1st at 4:00 PM.
 
On the Ozarks Eagles: The Eagles are off to a solid start this season with an 11-6 overall record (5-3 SCAC). Outside of conference play, they hold a 6-3 record, with two of their three losses coming against Millsaps College. Within the conference, the Eagles are 5-1 against teams with records below .500 but are 0-2 against teams above .500. Ozarks excels in ball control, ranking 3rd nationally in turnovers per game and 33rd in team three-point percentage. However, the Eagles rely heavily on just two players for scoring, as only two average double figures this season. Naomi Smith leads the way, averaging 18.6 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. She also ranks 8th nationally in double-doubles, showcasing her consistency and impact on both ends of the floor. This game marks the first-ever matchup between these two teams.
 
On the Centenary Ladies: The Ladies have struggled this season, posting a 2-14 overall record (1-7 SCAC). Their two wins came in an 81-74 victory over LeTourneau and a 74-61 win against Dallas. As a team, the Ladies have been outscored by opponents 883-414 and are shooting just 32 percent from the field and 17 percent from beyond the arc. Freshman forward Shyanne Phillips has been a bright spot, leading the team with 13.2 points per game while averaging 28 minutes per contest. In their last meeting, the Tigers dominated Centenary with an 80-47 blowout victory, extending their all-time record against the Ladies to a perfect 23-0.
 
Looking Ahead
 
The Tigers will hit the road to take on Texas Lutheran and Southwestern on February 7th and 8th.
