SAA Men's and Women's Swimmers of the Week: Daniel Apostol and Kaitlyn Phan
The team is coming fresh off of their win against St. Thomas in Houston, Texas, with a score of 331-67. The swimmers of the week coming out of this meet were two of the team's freshmen:
Daniel Apostol (Billings, Mont. / Central Catholic) and
Kaitlyn Phan (Austin, Texas / Westlake). Apostol soared to the top in the 50 freestyle, winning the heat by over half a second with an outstanding time of 21.42 seconds. He rode this momentum to an additional win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.88, beating the rest of the field by almost two seconds. Apostol also led two relays to victory, accompanied by stellar times by
Luke Fender (Jackson, Miss. / St. Andrew's Episcopal),
Enzo Fiorese (McKinney, Texas / Heritage), and
Will Walker (Houston, Texas / Westside) in the 400 freestyle, and in the 200 medley by
Jack Hester (Round Rock, Texas / Cedar Ridge),
Nate Perez (Alpharetta, Ga. / Johns Creek), and
Trace Briones (San Antonio, Texas / Health Careers).
Phan won the 100 backstroke by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 59.54, as well as the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.28, edging out her teammate
Kaya Alvegaard-Struble (Kansas City, Mo. / Pembroke Hill) with a time of 2:11.67. She additionally helped her 200 medley relay to second place, losing only to another Trinity University relay of
Ava Easley (Allen, Texas / Lovejoy),
Sophia Mandanis (Wichita, Kan. / Andover),
Allison Ortiz (Houston, Texas / Stratford), and
Jules Wiehrdt (Waco, Texas / Midway). We can hope to see more promising times from these swimmers as well as the rest of the team this weekend!
Preview- UTPB Dual Meet
Aside from more exciting backstroke swims from
Kaitlyn Phan and more sprints from
Daniel Apostol, we can look forward to many other exciting swims from Tigers! Chief Greene-Cockriel is a UTPB swimmer known for his freestyle and breaststroke prowess, so we can hope for a fun matchup between him and swimmers such as Apostol, Fender, or
Theodore Ho (Sugar Land, Texas / Clements), another impressive freestyler. On the women's side, UTPB's current top ranked swimmer is Avery Momotiuk, a breaststroker and 200 IMer. Trinity women's swimmers such as
Emme Penry (Greenwood Village, Colo. / Regis Jesuit),
Neely Burns (Phoenix, Ariz. / Thunderbird), or
Lindsay McKinney (Victoria, Texas / Saint Joseph) could face off against her this weekend. Let's hope the Tiger spirit helps spur them to victory against UTPB!
Looking Forward
Next week, Trinity University Swim and Dive will be split, competing at two different meets: D3 Shootout at the University of Chicago, and a tri-meet against Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and SUNY Geneseo in Geneseo, New York. The Chicago meet will begin on November 7th, and the New York meet will begin on November 8th.
