Trinity Football Adds Three AP All-American Awards

SAN ANTONIO – Three Trinity University football players were announced as All-Americans for the 2025 season by the Associated Press.

Senior offensive lineman Caleb Bayer (Grandview, Texas / Grandview) was named to the First Team, while senior linebacker TJ Scannell (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) and junior wide receiver Alejandro Tavarez (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) both made the Third Team. This is the first All-American award for Scannell and Tavarez, and this is the second such award this season for Bayer.

Scannell led Trinity in several defensive categories this season, including tackles (89), tackles for loss (12.5), and QB hurries (11). He also forced two fumbles and returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown in the team's NCAA Second Round Playoff win over Hardin-Simmons University (TX). Scannell earned First Team All-Southern Athletic Association and Second Team D3football.com All-Region accolades this season.

Tavarez finished the year with 1,001 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns to lead the aerial attack for the Tiger offense, which is just the seventh time in school history that a receiver has reached 1,000 yards in a season. He recorded 60 receptions and averaged 16.7 yards per catch on the year. Tavarez had three 100-yard receiving games this season and scored a touchdown in all but one of Trinity's 12 games on the year. His 15 touchdown receptions are tied for the second-most in school history for one year. Tavarez earned First Team All-SAA and D3football.com All-Region honors this year.

Bayer was the center for a Tiger offensive line that paved the way for nearly 2,300 yards rushing this season, averaging just under 200 yards per game. Trinity averaged 36.3 points per game and 433.2 yards of total offense per game this season. Bayer was earlier named to the American Football Coaches Association All-America First Team, while also earning First Team All-SAA and First Team D3football.com All-Region recognition.

Trinity finished the season with a 10-2 overall record, advancing to the Third Round of the NCAA Playoffs for the first time since 2002. The Tigers have made the NCAA Playoffs each of the last five years and have won 10 or more games three times during that stretch.
