No. 14 Tiger Women's Tennis Heads To Virginia For Groundhog Palooza

No. 14 Tiger Women's Tennis head to Lexington, Virginia for the Groundhog Palooza hosted by Washington and Lee on Valentine's weekend.

The Trinity University women's tennis team continued their successful start to the 2025 spring season with Back-to-Back-to-Back 7-0 wins against Concordia, Austin College, and UMHB. Against Concordia, the doubles matches started slowly as the Tiger duo of Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) and Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) fell at line one. However, their teammates Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) responded with a dominant 6-0 victory followed by success from Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Arizona / Desert Mountain) to secure the doubles point for Trinity.
 
In singles play, Ruth Hill dominated at line one with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Andrade followed with an identical 6-0, 6-1 win on line five. Kim and Hughes also secured wins, with Kim finishing the game off at 6-1, 6-3 on line two and Hughes taking a 6-2, 6-1 win at line three. Levy contributed to the team's success with a 6-3, 6-1 win on line four, and Sam Miller (Georgetown, Texas / Georgetown) sealed the 7-0 shutout with a 6-3, 6-1 win on line six.
 
Against Austin College, the Tigers put out a dominant display with Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minnesota / Wayzata) and Brooke Belitz (Scottsdale, Arizona / Notre Dame Prep) winning 6-0 at line one in doubles. At line two, Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kansas / Shawnee Mission East) and Sam Miller also secured a shutout victory. Finally, Allison Vo (Sugar Land, Texas / Elkins) and Alesandra Ceccarelli (Johannesburg, South Africa / ES American School BCN) claimed a 6-2 win to shutout the Roos.
 
In singles, Schmidt was in a hurry, sweeping line three with a 6-0, 6-0 victory to put the Tigers up 2-0. Nabedrick joined in on the action with a 6-1, 6-1 win at line one before Belitz clinched the overall match win with another flawless 6-0, 6-0 sweep at line five. Miller closed out line four with a 6-1, 6-2 win whilst both Vo and Ceccarelli were also victorious to complete the shutout win.
 
The match against UMHB began with a flawless showing in doubles play, as Trinity secured the first point by sweeping all three matches. Andrade and Levy set the standard at Line 1 with a perfect 6-0 victory before Kim and Hughes followed at Line 2 with another shutout 6-0. Hill and Tin wrapped up the doubles sweep with another victory for the Tigers.
 
Trinity brought their doubles success into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Hill was the first to finish at Line 1, earning a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory. Andrade followed next with a straight forward win, whilst Nabedrick quickly secured a 6-2, 6-1 victory at Line 5. Kim then clinched her match with a solid 6-3, 6-1 win. Levy continued the Tigers' momentum at Line 4, posting a 6-0, 6-4 victory, while Ellie Hughes completed the sweep at Line 3 with a 6-0, 6-3 win.
 
SCAC Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week - Olivia Kim, Ellie Hughes
 
For the first time this season, the senior duo of Ellie Hughes and Olivia Kim have been selected as the SCAC Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week. 
 
From the SCAC Press Release: Hill showed absolute dominance on her way to helping the Tigers secure two more 7-0 victories on the weekend. Playing at line one, Hill
took her conference match against Concordia (Texas) 6-0, 6-1, and against UMHB, again in line one, she put together another strong.
 
SCAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week - Ruth Hill
 
For the first time this season, senior Ruth Hill has been selected as the SCAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week.
 
From the SCAC Press Release: Hughes, a graduate student from Austin, Texas, and Kim, a senior from Phoenix, Ariz., were key in helping the Tigers secure two more 7-0 shutout victories over Concordia (Texas) and UMHB this weekend. Playing at line two, the team put together a solid 6-4 win to clinch the opening doubles point for the Tigers. Then, against UMHB, they swept the number two doubles line. Overall this season, Hughes and Kim are 3-0.
 
Preview - Tigers Head East for Valentines Weekend
 
The Tigers will continue to play away from home as they travel to Lexington, Virginia to face off with Washington & Lee on the 14th. The Tigers will then play Christopher Newport on the 15th before finally taking on Johns Hopkins on the 16th February.
 
On the Washington & Lee Generals: The No. 10 ranked Generals face off with Trinity in their opening match of the Spring 2025 season. Washington & Lee return three of their five All-ODAC players from last season, including the 2024 ODAC Player of the Year, Lauren Long, and Coach of the Year, Erin Ness. Last time out, Trinity defeated the Generals 6-3, bringing their all time record to 2-1.
 
On the Christopher Newport Captains: The Captains come into the 2025 spring season with their highest national ranking in program history at No.17. Nationally-ranked in both singles and doubles in the preseason rankings, Raine Weis will open the year ranked No. 41 in the Division III singles rankings while also earning a designation of No. 15 in the doubles poll with partner Kylie Schaefer. In May 2024, the Tigers defeated the Captains 5-1 to take their all time record to 1-0.
 
On the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays: The Blue Jays begin their 2025 spring season in a matchup with the Tigers. Ranked No. 17, Johns Hopkins will hope to start the season on the right foot. They will look to resume their fall 2024 form after a 7-0 victory against NC Wesleyan and a 6-1 win against fellow Tiger foe Christopher Newport. Last time out, the Tigers were defeated 6-3 in a close game. Their all time record stands at 1-3
