Preview - Nothing but Tennis on Sunday

The Tigers look to remain perfect at home this season as they host McMurry and East Texas Baptist University on Sunday March 2nd at 10A.M. (McMurry) and 1P.M. (ETBU) at Butch Newman Tennis Center.

On the McMurry War Hawks: The War Hawks are 0-2 so far this year with losses against Texas A&M-Texarkana 0-7 (NAIA) and Weatherford college 1-8 (NJCAA). Last season, the War Hawks finished with a 7-9 record, however they did not qualify for the American Southwest conference tournament. The War Hawks will look to sophomore K'Linda Mason to lead the way. Since the fall 2024 season, Mason is 4-5 in singles and 1-1 this spring. Mason has picked up the War Hawks only point of the season with a victory at line two against Weatherford 6-3, 6-4. Last time out, Trinity defeated the War Hawks 9-0 in the 2021-2022 season. The Tiger's record against McMurry stands at a perfect 9-0 since 2009. McMurry will be in for an uphill battle in San Antonio as they take on the Tigers.

On the East Texas Baptist Tigers: The Tigers have yet to play a match this spring season, as their matches against Texas Lutheran, St. Thomas (TX), and McMurry were all cancelled. The Tigers concluded their 2024 campaign with a respectable 14-5 record, where they saw themselves qualify for the American Southwest Conference tournament. They won their opening match against Hardin-Simmons 5-2, however their season came to an end in the second round against Mary-Hardin Baylor 2-5. The Tigers will look to the skilled junior Bailey Smith to get their spring season off on the right foot. In the 2023-2024 season she recorded an impressive 19-4 record in singles and a 17-4 record in doubles. Last time out, Trinity defeated East Texas Baptist 9-0 in the 2021-2022 season. The Tiger's all-time record against East Texas Baptist stands at a perfect 7-0, with East Texas Baptist only scoring points on two of those occasions. ETBU will look to upset Trinity in a battle of the Tigers in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will host No. 22 Gustavus Adolphus and MIT in a challenging back-to-back on Thursday, March 6, at 5 P.M. (Gustavus Adolphus) and Friday, March 7, at 3 P.M. (MIT) at Butch Newman Tennis Center.
