The Rundown
Â
Under the bright lights of Trinity Softball Stadium in San Antonio, Texas, the Trinity University Tigers faced off against the University of Dallas in a conference showdown. From the very first pitch, the Tigers asserted their dominance, making it clear that they were in control.
Â
The Tigers wasted no time putting pressure on the Dallas defense. Leadoff hitter Tagawa set the tone with a bunt single, then immediately stole second base. Whitacre followed with a well-placed bunt single of her own, putting runners on the corners. A defensive miscue by Dallas allowed Tagawa to score the game's first run. With momentum building, Lee laid down another bunt, bringing in another run. The offensive onslaught continued as
Peyton Bowser (Arvada, Colorado / West) and
Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) kept the pressure on. Tagawa, batting again in the same inning, ripped a double down the left-field line, driving in two more runs. By the end of the first inning, Trinity had racked up six runs, making a bold statement: they were here to dominate.
Â
After a scoreless top half from Dallas, Trinity looked to extend its lead. Boudreaux wasted no time, launching the first pitch of the inning over the fence for her first home run of the season, putting the Tigers up 7-0.
Â
Dallas struggled to generate any offensive momentum against Trinity's sharp pitching, and the Tigers continued to capitalize. Tagawa and Whitacre reached base and quickly put themselves in scoring position with aggressive baserunning. Boudreaux added to the lead with a sacrifice fly, and moments later, Lee doubled to left-center, extending Trinity's lead to 9-0.
Â
Though the University of Dallas managed to scratch across a run in the fourth inning, it wasn't nearly enough to spark a comeback. Trinity's pitching staff held firm, shutting down any hopes of a rally. The Tigers blanked Dallas in the fifth, securing a dominant 9-1 victory.
