The Tigers started their season opener in a pitcher's duel for the first couple of innings, with Josephine Kolewyne not conceding a run in five innings pitched. Trinity struck hard in the top of the fourth inning, where
Carsyn Lee got the hit party started with a double to left field. Josephine Kolewyne helped her Tiger teammate reach home with an RBI single through the left side. Not done yet,
Angela Baltzell (Antioch, California / Freedom) ripped one into left center for a 2 RBI double, but she wasn't on the base paths for long since
Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) brought her home with an RBI single.
Â
The top of the fifth saw
Meagan Brooks (Graham, Texas / Graham) drive in
Carsyn Lee for the Tigers to go up 5-0. In the bottom of the fifth,
Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) came out of the bullpen to try and close out the game. However, the YellowJackets struck back with a two run home run in the bottom of the fifth. They tightened that gap in the bottom of the seventh when the home team drove in another run to make it 5-3. That proved to be the final score, as Josephine Kolewyne came back in to finish what she started, forcing three straight ground outs to ice the game.
Â
Game 2: Tigers 10, YellowJackets 4
Â
The start of game 2 saw the Ambush strike early thanks to
Carsyn Lee getting a sac fly to score
Samantha Tagawa in the top of the first. Megan Brooks stepped up to the plate and provided the Tigers with a 2 RBI single into center field to give Trinity the early 3-0 lead. LeTourneau scratched across 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the third, but
Megan Kriechbaum held strong and prevented further damage.
Â
A scoring opportunity presented itself in the top of the fifth for the Tigers, and
Leah Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas / East Central) took advantage of it with a sac fly to drive in another run for the Ambush.
Carsyn Lee followed that up with an RBI single of her own to push the run disparity back to 3 in favor of the Tigers. Even though the YellowJackets would respond in the bottom of the fifth, that would prove to be the last runs the home team would score. Trinity tacked on some insurance runs in the top of the sixth by taking advantage of LeTourneau miscues.
Angela Baltzell stayed patient to draw an RBI walk, while
Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson) and
Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) scored off of LeTourneau Errors.
Â
Sydney Watson made it so the Tigers would hit double digit runs with a 2 RBI single into center field.
Heather Nugent (Huntington Beach, California / Marina) would close things out for Trinity and did not allow any YellowJacket to reach base in her effort. With these two wins, the Tigers improved their record against LeTourneau to 8-5 overall.
