Tiger Softball Gets Ready To Take On Spring Break

Trinity University Softball is ready to take on their next two weeks of play, with games against several opponents. This includes a non-conference doubleheader versus the University of Rochester, two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series against the University of the Ozarks and Concordia University (TX), and a single SCAC game against Texas Lutheran University.

The Tigers (15-4, 9-2 SCAC) swept a SCAC series over McMurry to record their fourth straight sweep of an opponent. Mariana Garcia (Goodyear, Ariz. / Canyon View) was a key part of the offense for Trinity, hitting 6-12 with five RBI and a home run to help uplift the Tigers over the War Hawks. Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) was another Tiger bat that crushed War Hawk pitching, batting 5-11 with three RBI from the dish to also contribute to the Tigers' offensive output. Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove) was untouchable in the circle, pitching 10.2 shutout innings against McMurry and scattering just four hits. Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) and Heather Nugent (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Marina) also recorded a combined No-hitter against Carnegie Mellon in game one of a midweek doubleheader to make it a very successful week for Trinity softball.

Preview - Spring Break!

On The University of Rochester Yellowjackets: The Yellowjackets look to improve upon a very impressive 2024 season where they finished with a 32-9 record and made a regional final appearance in the NCAA tournament. Rochester started 2025 with a 1-3 record before their trip to Texas. Sophomore Utility player Riley Laygo is the bat to watch for the Yellowjackets. She led the team in multiple categories including, batting average (.463), RBI (42), home runs (12), and OPS (1.368). Molly Broccolo returns for her junior season in the circle. She posted an ERA of 1.89 last season and started a majority of the Yellowjackets games. This will be the first meeting between Trinity and Rochester.

On The University of the Ozarks Eagles: Ozarks is off to a slow start to their 2025 season, holding a 5-11 (4-8 SCAC) record. Their most recent series was against conference opponent Concordia, which saw them get swept and only score one run the entire series. Freshman Center Fielder Kyndal Garner will be the bat the Tigers need to look out for since she's hitting .367 to start the season. Junior Pitcher Morgan Haupt will look to hold the Tiger bats down. She's struck out 34 and holds a team leading 3.17 ERA. Trinity will play Ozarks for the first time in this series.

On The Concordia University Tornadoes: Concordia is starting to pick up steam after a slow start to their season. They lost their first five games, then proceeded to go 11-3 over their next 14 games to have an 11-8 (7-4 SCAC) record before spring break. Kylie Denaro is swinging the stick well for the Tornadoes, boasting a .460 batting average with eight RBI on the season. Concordia's pitching staff is led by two-way player Kylie Kirk. The sophomore has made a name for herself in the circle and at the plate, not allowing a run in her last 23 innings pitched to bolster her ERA of 2.95, and swinging .353 with 13 RBI from the plate to be a constant danger in any game. Trinity split a doubleheader with Concordia last year in Austin, Texas, and are 18-17 against them historically.

On The Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs: TLU is having a perfect season so far, and has a perfect 14-0 (8-0 SCAC) record to reflect that. Annie Kay has continued to keep her bat hot, the senior is mashing the ball for a .395 average and continuing to be a threat on the base paths with 18 steals on the season. Keep a lookout for Amanda White in the circle, her senior season has her with an ERA of 0.35 and 28 strikeouts. The Bulldogs are returning to complete the SCAC series with Trinity, a series that they've already won earlier in the season while Trinity is trying to avoid the sweep.
