Â
On a scorching day in San Antonio, the Tiger women opened up play with a rampant 3-0 win in the doubles action. First to finish was the on fire duo of
Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) at #3, who got the day headed in the right direction with a 6-2 win. Up next to seal the doubles point was the reliable senior partnership of
Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and
Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Arizona / Desert Mountain) at #2. They made surprisingly light work of their ranked opponent, winning 6-1, putting Trinity on the board for the first time today. To wrap up a great start to the morning, the consistent #1 duo of
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) and
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy), swept their opponent 6-0, making a clean sweep of the doubles matches
Â
After destroying their opponents in the doubles, the Tigers entered singles play 1-0 up and looking to extend their lead in the tie. First to finish was Andrade at #6 who made light work of her opponent winning 6-2, 6-0 in quick fashion. The skillful Kim at #2 then swept her opponent without losing a game winning, 6-0, 6-0, putting Trinity 3-0 up and on the brink of victory. It was then left up to the reliable freshman
Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minnesota / Wayzata) Â at #4, to bring home the win for the tigers. Play wasn't quite as simple an affair as Kim's match, however, Nabedrick made no mistake and confidently won 6-3, 6-1, to wrap up the win for the Tigers.Â
Â
With the clean sweep very much still a possibility, there were three matches left to play. Alike her teammates, Levy at #5 made simple work of her opponent winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Next up was Hill returning to court action at #1. This played out as one of the two closest matches of the day with Hill being taken to a super tiebreaker to decide the outcome of the tie. Having won the 1st set 6-1, her opponent bounced back and won the 2nd set 7-5, only for Hill to wrap up the 6th point of the day with a 1-0 (10-4) win in the super tiebreaker. In an exceptionally close encounter, it was left it in the hands of the powerful Hughes at #3, to make it a clean sweep of the T-Breds on a very hot morning. Having lost the 1st set 7-6 (8-6), Hughes fought back and won the 2nd set 7-6 (7-5) but unfortunately lost in the super tiebreaker 1-0 (10-8), handing Skidmore their only point of the day. However, this didn't overshadow an overall outstanding 6-1 win against a fellow nationally ranked opponent.Â
