Box Score SAN ANTONIO – The 10th-ranked Trinity University Women's Tennis team fell 6-1 to the nation's #1 ranked team, University of Chicago, on Tuesday evening at the
Butch Newman Tennis Center.
The Tigers dropped to 14-2 on the season with the loss, while the Maroons improved to 12-1. Trinity's only other loss this season also came against a top-ranked opponent, losing 4-3 to #6 Washington & Lee, at the beginning of a very challenging stretch of games for the Tigers.
Trinity opened doubles play with a loss at line two as
Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) and
Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) fell 6-1, before
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, Calif. / Weil Tennis Academy) and
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) narrowly lost 6-4 at #1, meaning the Maroons would take the 1-0 lead heading into singles play. The Tigers rounded out doubles action with a win at line 3, with
Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) securing a 6-4 victory.
Chicago extended its advantage in singles as Hughes fell 6-2, 6-0 at line three. Levy secured Trinity's lone point of the day, securing a hard-fought 6-2, 7-5 win at line five in a battling performance. There wasn't much Andrade could do to stop the Maroons at line six, losing 6-3, 6-2, before Kim lost 6-2, 6-4 at second spot.
The final two matches saw Trinity push back but ultimately fall in three sets. At line four,
Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata) won the opening set 6-2 but dropped the next two 6-4, 6-1. Hill forced a third set at line one after a 7-5 loss in the opener and a 6-3 second-set win, but she ultimately fell 6-4 in the deciding set.
