Tiger Softball Sails To Georgetown For Maritime Bout With Southwestern

Trinity University Softball ends their nine game homestand and hits I-35 for a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series against Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.

The Tigers (22-6, 15-3 SCAC) are fresh off of a series sweep of Concordia, where they outscored the Tornados 22-6 throughout the series. Peyton Bowser (Arvada, Colorado / West) did a lot of damage at the plate, hitting .555 (5-9) with five RBI and not committing an error at the hot corner in the series. Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) kept the Concordia bats quiet in the circle, making two appearances where she pitched nine total innings, seven of which were a complete game, while only giving up one earned run. Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson) hit .400 (4-10) with an RBI in the series and caused damage on the basepaths by stealing three bases.

Preview - Gaining Sea Legs

Trinity Softball heads to Georgetown, Texas, for a SCAC series against Southwestern. The opening game will be on Friday, March 28th, at 6:00 PM. The subsequent doubleheader will be on Saturday, March 29th, with game one starting at 1:00 PM and game two scheduled for 3:00 PM.

On The Southwestern University Pirates: The Pirates have been straddling the .500 record line for most of the season, but are under the .500 marker with a 12-13 (10-5) record. Their most recent SCAC series saw them swept at the hands of Centenary on the road. The game three loss was particularly disappointing since they were walked off after going into the bottom of the sixth with a six run lead. Senior infielder Meghan McCarthy will look to cause problems for the Tigers. She's the only batter with an OPS above 1.000, and a big part of that is the 15 walks she's been able to draw this season to get on the basepaths consistently. Southwestern will turn to Sophomore pitcher Sophia Ytuarte to try and keep the Tiger bats quiet. She's been the most active pitcher for the Pirates, making 13 total appearances in the circle and pitching a team leading 56 innings. Trinity swept the Pirates in San Antonio last season, and are looking to improve upon their 30-35 all time record against Southwestern.

Coming Up

The road trip continues for the Tigers as they will take I-10 West to Kerrville, Texas for a SCAC series against Schreiner from April 4th to April 5th. After a bye week, the Tigers will return home for their final home series of the season against Centenary (LA) from April 18th to April 19th.
