Tiger Softball Prepped For Senior Weekend Versus Centenary

Trinity University Softball has their final home Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series of the 2025 season against Centenary (LA).

The Tigers (27-7, 20-4 SCAC) swept their last SCAC series against Schreiner in dominant fashion, outscoring the Mountaineers 29-3 in the series. Angela Baltzell (Antioch, Calif. / Freedom) pummeled Schreiner pitching, hitting .555 (5-9) with a double and eight RBI in the three game series. Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove) put together another gem of a performance, pitching a complete game shutout of the Mountaineers in game three while also collecting eight strikeouts.

NCAA NPI Rankings

In the second release of the NCAA's NPI Rankings, which determine the at-large bids to the NCAA tournament, Trinity is ranked 41st out of 401 Division III programs. If the season ended today, Trinity would be in the NCAA tournament as an at-large bid. Fellow SCAC rival Texas Lutheran currently sits in 6th place in the most recent NPI rankings.

Senior Spotlight - Class of 2025

This section is dedicated to the five seniors that have devoted countless hours to the Trinity University softball program.

Abigail Miller (Winnetka, Calif. / El Camino Real) started her first game on February 6th, 2022 at Catcher in game two versus McMurry. Miller would become the go to player for the Catcher's position in her first year with the Tigers, and became known for her strong arm behind the plate that enables her to catch even the fastest of would-be base stealers. She played a key role in her sophomore year in Trinity's run in the SCAC conference tournament by becoming the first catcher in the NCAA to catch Texas Lutheran's Caelee Clark, which, in part, gave the team momentum to record the historic 1-0 shutout victory against TLU. Although injury robbed her of her junior season, she returned for her senior season and is currently leaving an impact by batting .400 and holding a perfect fielding percentage.

Sydney Watson (San Antonio, Texas / San Antonio Christian) made her first appearance for Trinity as a pinch runner on February 6th, 2022 in game one against McMurry. Watson has been a defensive rock in the outfield for the Tigers, becoming one of very few Tigers to commit zero errors in a season in which they started at least 44 games, and has not committed an error at her position in over two years. Beyond highlight reel plays on defense, Watson hit her first career home run against Schreiner just two weekends ago to prove herself as an offensive threat as well.

Zoe Frausto (Katy, Texas / Morton Ranch) first appeared in a game as a Pinch Hitter against Pacific Lutheran in game two on February 11th, 2022. During the 2024 season, Frausto was able to help the Tigers out when they were struggling to find a suitable Catcher by stepping behind the dish. She committed zero errors as the starting catcher for the Tigers and gave the team something they seldom had that year, peace of mind behind home plate. Her efforts behind the plate helped the Tigers record a program best 31 wins that season.

Peyton Bowser (Arvada Colorado / West) recorded her first appearance on February 11th, 2023 in game one against Hardin-Simmons. Bowser has made the hot corner her home on the field, starting nearly every game in her career at third base. Her presence at third base has robbed many a batter of an infield single thanks to her incredible throwing arm strength. She set a new personal record when she recorded three RBI in game one against Concordia (TX) this year.

Leah Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas / East Central) played her first game for the Tigers on February 6th, 2022 in game one against McMurry. She appeared in the lineup sporadically in her first three years at Trinity, but the Senior has reached the renaissance of her career this season by slashing .426 with two home runs and 13 RBI to make her one of the most imposing challenges an opposing team can face. Gonzalez is always a threat to put the ball in play, leading the team for least strikeouts for batters with at least 60 ABs with only two.

Preview - The Last Dance

The Tigers play host to Centenary in their final SCAC home series of the year, with a doubleheader on Friday, April 18th with game one at 1:00 PM, and game two at 3:00 PM followed by a single game on Saturday, April 19th at noon.

On The Centenary College Ladies: Centenary has had a roller coaster of a season so far, coming into the series with a 17-16 (12-11 SCAC) record. Their most recent series was a crushing loss to McMurry 1-2 that has put them in a precarious position in the conference standings. Senior catcher Abby Touchet is the dangerous clean up batter for the Ladies, batting .414 with five home runs and 26 RBI. Senior pitcher Emma Shepherd has been a workhorse for Centenary, striking out 63 batters over 93.1 innings to culminate in a solid 2.55 ERA. Trinity swept the SCAC series in Shreveport last year and is 31-15 versus Centenary all time.
