Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The 10th-ranked Trinity University Women's Tennis Team delivered a dominant performance to bounce back from yesterday's loss by overpowering the Grinnell College Pioneers 6-1 at the Washington University-St. Louis Tao Tennis Center.
The Tigers set the tone early in the doubles, putting on a clinical display to claim the point with a clean sweep. First to wrap up were the powerful duo of
Trinity Levy (Camarillo, California / Weil Tennis Academy) and
Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Ponderosa) at #1, who cruised to a 6-2 win. Hot on their heels were the dynamic national tournament duo of last year,
Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and
Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Arizona / Desert Mountain) at #2, who matched the scoreline with a confident 6-2 victory of their own. Rounding out the doubles sweep were first-year
Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and senior
Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) at #3, who clinched a 6-3 win to seal the opening point for Trinity.
With momentum on their side, the Tigers quickly took control in the singles. First off the court was Levy at #4, who made short work of her opponent with a commanding 6-3, 6-1 win. Next came Hill at #1, whose consistency and power carried her to a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 result. The Tigers kept rolling as
Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minnesota / Wayzata) at #3 secured the clinching point with a steady 6-4, 6-3 win.
Grinnell managed to get on the scoreboard with a tight win at #2 singles, as Hughes fell 6-4, 7-5 in a hard-fought battle. Even though the clean sweep was off the Tigers closed out the match in a strong manner, with Andrade carrying her form from the doubles into a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win at #5, and Tin wrapping up the day with a composed 6-2, 6-4 win at #6.
