Preview - Winner Takes All in Waco
The Tigers prepare for the finale of the 2025 season as they travel to Waco, TX to take part in the SCAC Championships. The Tigers, as the top seed, have received a bye to the quarterfinal round where they will face the winner of McMurry University and the University of Ozarks. The Tigers will play their quarterfinal match on Friday, April 25, at 3 p.m.
On the McMurry War Hawks: The War Hawks come into the conference tournament as the 8th seed in the SCAC (Not Ranked Nationally). They have had a tough first season in the SCAC, failing to win a match this spring and suffering nine defeats in the process. Of those nine defeats, the War Hawks have been swept five times. Their most competitive defeats have come against Austin College 3-4, the 7th seed coming into the SCAC tournament. They were also bested by the Schreiner Mountaineers 2-5, the 6th seed in this year's SCAC tournament. Earlier this spring, Trinity swept McMurry 7-0. Trinity has never lost to the War Hawks, making it a tall task for McMurry should they defeat Ozarks in the first round of the SCAC tournament.
On the Ozark Eagles: The Eagles come into the conference tournament as the 9th seed in the SCAC (Not Ranked Nationally). Similar to McMurry, the Eagles have also had a tough first season in the SCAC. The Eagles own a record of 3-14, with their three wins coming against the University of Dallas 7-0, the 11th seed coming into the SCAC tournament, Olivet College 7-0, and the College Of Wooster 4-3. Of their 14 defeats, the Eagles have been swept 11 times and they have only scored points in five of their 17 matches. Ozarks will look to Annie Nelligan to have a standout performance. Nelligan holds a 3-10 record this spring, defeating the University of Dallas 6-0, 6-3, Olivet College 6-2, 6-3, and the College Of Wooster 6-2, 6-1. Trinity and Ozarks have never faced off before, making this potential match the first for the two programs. If Ozarks manages to pull off an upset against McMurry, they will have a tall task defeating this highly talented Tiger Tennis Team.
