Tiger Softball Swings For SCAC Championship

Trinity University Softball starts their post season play at Southwestern University, which is hosting the 2025 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference softball tournament.

The Tigers (30-10, 23-7 SCAC) are looking to rebound after getting swept by St. Thomas over the weekend. Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, TX. / Flower Mound) was the main purveyor of offense in game one, going 2-3 at the plate with two RBI. Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy of Arts Careers and Technology) put in a strong effort over the weekend, coming in to pitch in games one and three and throwing 10 innings where she only gave up three earned runs.

Preview - SCAC Tournament

The Tigers will head to Southwestern University for the SCAC tournament, where they are the three-seed. They join one-seed Texas Lutheran, two-seed St. Thomas (TX), four-seed Concordia (TX), five-seed McMurry, and six-seed Centenary (LA). Trinity will play Centenary (LA) in the first round on Thursday, May 1st at 6:30 PM.

On The #4 Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs: Texas Lutheran is one of the best teams in all of Division III softball, coming into the SCAC tournament with a 39-1 (29-1 SCAC) record. The Bulldogs recorded a sweep of McMurry last weekend in a series where they never trailed. They hit .368 as a team, a mark good enough for the 15th best team in that category, and are led, in part, by junior outfielder Annie Kay, who has been blistering softballs for a .496 batting average and 30 RBI. TLU's pitching staff is the best in the nation, holding a 0.99 ERA as a team thanks to the efforts of Amanda White, Katelyn Howard, and Ainsley Davis. Trinity were swept by the Bulldogs in an extended regular season series.

On The University of St. Thomas Celts: St. Thomas is coming into the SCAC tournament on cloud nine, winning their last 12 games in a row to improve their record to 29-10 (25-4 SCAC). The Celts' last series was against Trinity, and they swept the Tigers to lock up the two-seed. St. Thomas has several bats that have been solid for them this season, with both Rebecca Archibald and Chloe Bennett hitting over .400, and Bennett collecting a conference leading 52 RBI. The Celts' pitching staff has been a two headed monster with Victoria Sossaman and Allison Hughes putting in the majority of the work in the circle this season and being highly successful while doing so.

On The Concordia University Texas Tornados: The Tornados have pieced together a very successful season for themselves, coming into the SCAC tournament as winners of their last 12 games and a record of 27-12 (22-7 SCAC). Concordia crushed Southwestern in their senior series, sweeping the Pirates very convincingly. Kylie Kirk is one of several players having a stellar season at the plate for the Tornados, slashing .437 with 13 doubles, six home runs, and 37 RBI. Kirk is also the ace in the circle for the Tornados, posting an ERA of 3.20 over 81.2 innings pitched this season. Trinity swept Concordia in San Antonio during the regular season in a relatively competitive series.

On The McMurry University War Hawks: The War Hawks have had a rough go of it this season, ending their regular season on five straight losses that brought their record to 15-17 (14-15 SCAC). Their senior weekend series was spoiled by Texas Lutheran, who crashed their party and swept the War Hawks. Jade Dickens, Mercedes Camacho, and Reaghan Staeley have all recorded 20 RBI this season and are all hitting over .300 this season to be big contributors to the War Hawk offense. It's been a rough season for the McMurry pitching staff, but Emmalee Gebhart has been a bright spot with her 4.43 ERA. Trinity swept the series against the War Hawks in Abilene during the regular season.

On The Centenary College Ladies: Centenary has had their ups and downs this season, which has culminated in their 19-20 (14-15 SCAC) record. They finished their regular season on a high note by winning their most recent series against Schreiner 2-1. Viviana Rivero and Abby Touchet lead the Ladies offensively with their strong bats, combining for eight home runs and hitting over .350 this season. Senior pitcher Emma Shephard has been the reliable ace Centenary has turned to time and time again, and her reliability has resulted in a 2.76 ERA over 109 innings pitched. Trinity swept Centenary in San Antonio in the regular season, where they only allowed one run the entire series.
