Box Score GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Trinity University softball team had its season come to an end with a 5-3 loss to Centenary College (LA) in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament at Taylor-Sanders Field on the campus of Southwestern University (TX).
The Tigers (32-12) had defeated the Ladies (21-21) earlier in the tournament but could not rally for another win in today's matchup. Trinity set a new school record with its 32nd win yesterday to advance to today's game but fell short of getting back to the SCAC Tournament Championship game. Centenary took the lead early with two runs in the second inning, then after Trinity tied the game in the fourth, the Ladies added three more runs to reclaim the lead for good. The Tigers out-hit the Ladies 9-6 but left seven runners on base.
Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) was the only Tiger player with more than one hit in today's game, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI, and adding to her single season doubles record with her 19th two-bagger this season.
Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove) was charged with the loss and fell to 6-4 on the year, allowing five runs on six hits over 4.2 innings, and striking out seven batters.
Facing a 2-0 deficit in the middle of the game, Lee's double got the Tigers started in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Mariana Garcia (Goodyear, Ariz. / Canyon View) followed the extra-base hit with an RBI single, and the score was quickly cut in half.
Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, Calif. / Agoura) knocked in the tying run three batters later, though Trinity did strand two runners on base at the end of the inning.
Three walks, a single, and a passed ball led to three more runs for Centenary as they pulled back in front 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fifth.
Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) delivered a one-out single in the home half and
Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) took over as a pinch-runner. Lee singled through the left side of the infield and an error brought Arce in to score, but Lee was thrown out trying to move to third on the play, and the momentum was stalled with Trinity trailing 5-3.
Heather Nugent (Huntington Beach, Calif. / Marina) came into the game in relief of Kriechbaum in the fifth and went on to retire all seven batters she faced to keep the game within reach for the Tigers. Unfortunately, Trinity's offense stranded two more runners in the sixth and went down in order in the seventh to end the game.
For their efforts this weekend, both Lee and Boudreaux were named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team. Lee makes the team for the first time in her career, while Boudreaux has made the list each of her first two seasons with the Tigers.
