No. 11 Tiger Women's Tennis Dominates In Day One Of ITA Regional Championships

ABILENE, Texas - The 11th-ranked Trinity University women's tennis team had an outstanding start in the first two round of singles play at the 2025 ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Thursday, hosted by Hardin-Simmons University.

The Tigers lost just once in 14 total matches on day one, with six of the seven competing players pushing through to tomorrow's Round of 16. Trinity has the top four seeds in this year's tournament and all four won twice on Thursday. Doubles teams will join in the action on Friday with two rounds of play that begins at 8:00 a.m.

Top-seeded senior Trinity Levy (Camarillo, Calif. / Weil Tennis Academy) won in straight sets in both of her matches to start the tournament. She beat Kendra Werlein of Howard Payne University (TX) 6-0, 6-2 in the Round of 64, then dispatched Mackenzie Griffin from Schreiner University (TX) 6-0, 6-1 in the second round. Levy will take on Brenna Gordon of Hardin-Simmons tomorrow in the Round of 16. Gordon won easily in the first round (6-1, 61-), but had to battle back for a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-2) decision in round two.

First-year standout Eva Kovachev (Arlington, Texas / The Oakridge School), who is ranked second coming into the weekend, defeated Mehkayla Milano of McMurry Inivdrsity 6-0, 6-0 to start the day, then took down Olivia Sanchez from Austin College (TX) 6-1, 6-2 to move on to tomorrow's main draw action. She will face teammate Astrid Kerrman (Edina, Minn. / Edina) in the Round of 16 tomorrow, guaranteeing the Tigers at least one spot in the Quarterfinals. Kerrman also breezed through the first two rounds with straight set victories over Aria Moreni from Concordia University (TX) (6-0, 6-1) and Lori Bryan of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX).

Number three seed Rosabella Andrade (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) won 6-1, 6-0 against Lathleen Roset from the University of Dallas (TX) to start the day, then breezed past Emma Curiel of HSU 6-1, 6-0 to move forward in the tournament. Fourth seed Lucy Nabedrick (Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata) didn't lose a set with 6-0, 6-0 wins over both Adriana Iturralde from the University of St. Thomas (TX) and Kristyn Dunn of East Texas Baptist University. Andrade takes on Breanna Taylor of UMHB tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., who won 6-2, 6-1 in round one and then battled out a 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) win in round two. Nabedrick will face Kylie Weeks of LeTourneau University (TX) on Friday at 1:00 p.m., following 6-0, 6-1 and 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 wins by Weeks today.

Trinity's Lauren Tin (Austin, Texas / Vandergrift), the sixth-seeded singles player in the tournament, won 6-0, 6-0 over HSU's Allie Dunn in the first round today, then scored a 6-3, 6-0 win against UMHB's Sydney Tomlin to finish the day. Tin face off against HSU's Sydney Tomlin, who won both of her matches in straight sets (6-1, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-4) in today's first two rounds of play. Allison Vo (Sugar Land, Texas / Elkins) was the first player to win in round one, taking out HSU's Christa Bennett 6-0, 6-0. Facing Kimberly Duncan of Southwestern University, Vo bounced back from a 6-3 loss in set one to force a tiebreaker set with a 7-5 win in the second. The two players needed extra points to decide the match and Duncan ultimately prevailed 12-10, handing Trinity what proved to be its only loss of the day.

Doubles play begins tomorrow and the Tigers will have the top three seeds on the court. Number one seeds Levy and Andrade open against Emmy Mize and Bailey Parker from Concordia to start the day. Second-seeded Kovachev and Nabedrick face Neymar Gonzalez and Alexis Stong from ETBU, while three seeds Tin and Katie Schmidt (Prairie Village, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) battle against Leane Marie and Masyn Knight of UMHB. The unseeded doubles duo of Vo and Kerrman will take on Jenna Vincent and Mulski from McMurry, with all four Tiger doubles teams beginning at 8:00 a.m. The winners advance to the Round of 16 later that morning, with a scheduled start time of 9:45.

All six of Trinity's singles players will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will have to fight for their right to reach the Quarterfinals that will begin on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. doubles Quarterfinals and Semifinals will also be on Saturday. Both the singles and doubles championships will be held on Sunday.
