Trinity Softball Plays In First Home Games Against Whitworth

Trinity University Softball returns to San Antonio to take on Whitworth (Washington) at home this Sunday.

The Tigers (3-1) kicked off their 2026 season in California with a doubleheader sweep against the University of La Verne and a doubleheader split against Whittier College. Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson) had a great start to her junior season with 9 hits, 5 RBI and 8 stolen bases. Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) also had a great start to the season with 7 hits, as well as Sammantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, Calif. / Agoura) with 7 hits and 5 runs scored. In the circle, Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy for Arts Careers and Technology) led the Tigers pitching staff, picking up 3 wins.

Preview - Home Opener

The Tigers will return to San Antonio for their 2026 home opener with a doubleheader against Whitworth University on Sunday, February 22 at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.

On the Whitworth University Pirates: The Pirates have yet to begin their 2026 season, as they look forward to starting their year against the Southwestern University Pirates on Saturday. Looking at Whitworth's 2025 season, the Pirates finished with a 6-32 record, and a staff ERA of 6.25. They will likely rely on Sage Kendel, a sophomore outfielder, in the lineup, as she had a team high batting average of .252. Apart from Kendel, the Pirates struggled to put the bat on the ball with a team average of .216. In the circle, Whitworth will have to navigate how to manage their pitching staff with only one returning pitcher from last season, Teeghan Reams. Altogether, the Pirates pitching staff gave up 125 walks and 325 hits last season, which were the main contributors to their 32 losses. Historically, the Tigers are 1-3 against Whitworth, and last faced them in 2022.

Key to the Series

Knowing that the Pirates have a new and struggling pitching staff, the Tigers will have to stay patient in the box and punish the pitches that hang over the plate.

On the Horizon

Next weekend, the Trinity Tigers will continue their home campaign with a pair of non-conference doubleheaders against Hanover College (Indiana) on February 27, as well as Willamette University (Oregon) on March 1.
