Tigers Softball Continues Their Home Campaign, Hosting Two Doubleheaders
The Trinity University softball team continues their home campaign with two non-conference doubleheaders against Hanover (Indiana) and Willamette (Oregon) this Friday and Sunday.
The Tigers (5-1) picked up two wins at home last weekend against Whitworth University. Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) was the hero of the first game, where she hit an opposite-field nuke to walk it off in the bottom of the 8th. Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nev. / Academy for Arts Careers and Technology) pitched 8 dominant innings, allowing only 1 run and picking up her 4th win of the 2026 season.
In the second game, Angela Baltzell (Antioch, Calif. / Freedom) cleared the bases with a 3-run double to get the Tigers' offense rolling. Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) picked up two hits and one RBI, ultimately contributing to the Tigers' 8-0 run-rule win. In the circle, Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove) collected 8 strikeouts, only giving up 3 hits and holding the Pirates scoreless through the 5-inning matchup.
Preview - Doubleheader Weekend in San Antonio
The Tigers look ahead to take on the Hanover College Panthers on Friday, February 27 at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, and the Willamette University Bearcats on Sunday, March 1 at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
On the Hanover College Panthers: The Panthers (0-2) began their season with two losses against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and will continue their Texas trip by facing Schreiner University and Southwestern University before arriving in San Antonio to face the Tigers. Freshman Claire King is off to a great start offensively, batting .500 at UMHB. In 2025, LauRie Harmless led the team's offense with an average of .354, and will return for her junior season this year. The Panthers' pitching staff struggled against UMHB, giving up 23 hits and 14.54 earned runs. The Tigers last faced the Panthers in 2023, where they split the doubleheader.
On the Willamette University Bearcats: Last season, Willamette finished with a 20–18 record. This year, the Bearcats (2-2) have picked up a couple of standout freshmen to add to their lineup. Freshman Mckenzee Petersen collected 7 hits and 5 RBI, and freshman Mia Atkins put up 6 hits and 7 RBI so far this season. Senior outfielder Emma Elliott led last year's squad with a .460 average, and will return this year as a staple in the Bearcats lineup. On the pitching side, senior Lizzie Brasher finished the 2025 season with a 4.62 ERA, and will likely get some innings. Freshman Mckenzee Petersen has already picked up 2 wins and 8 strikeouts in 4 games, and looks to be a promising addition to the Bearcats' staff. This will be the first time the Trinity softball program has ever faced Willamette.
Looking Forward
Next weekend, the Tigers will host yet another doubleheader at home, where they will face the Howard Payne University Yellow Jackets on Saturday, March 7.
