No. 17 Tiger Men’s Golf Heads To Space City Classic

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - No. 17 Tiger Men's Golf is back in action at Space City Classic.

Last time

In their last tournament, the Tigers finished in a tie for seventh place amongst a highly competitive field, including the top-ranked team in the country.

Sam Rossi (Los Angeles, Calif. / Loyola) paced the Tigers, finishing 2-under for the tournament and earning a 12th-place finish. Rossi opened with a 1-over round but caught fire on the back nine, carding two birdies to turn in 35. He delivered an impressive second round, tallying four birdies for a 3-under 69. Rossi closed the tournament at even par with two more birdies, demonstrating steady, composed play throughout the three rounds. Andre Follmer (Austin, Texas / Lake Travis) began the spring season strong, finishing at even par overall and placing 16th. He opened with a 1-under 71 highlighted by three birdies. After a 3-over second round that included three birdies, Follmer bounced back in impressive fashion, firing a 2-under final round with six birdies to cap the tournament.

Preview - Going To H-Town

The Tigers will head to Houston, Texas to play in the Space City Classic hosted by the University of St. Thomas on Monday, March 9th and Tuesday, March 10th. For round one, there will be a shotgun start at 8:30 AM.

Scouting the Course: The Tigers will play at Gus Wortham Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas. Noted as the "Gem of the East End", Gus Wortham is a 71 par and 71.2 rated course. The course is full of challenges including elevated tee boxes and uphill greens. The park also had short par fours. However, each of these is presented with its own challenge, such as hole seven. Hole seven is a 350-yard par four with a creek running through just before the green. While some may elect to drive the green, the uphill slope of the land calls for a layup. Holes like these will require players to give their shots much thought to be successful.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will have a few weeks off before heading to Tennessee for the Greystone Classic on March 30th and 31st.
