Trinity Softball Takes on Nationally-Ranked Berry In Conference Matchup

Trinity Tigers Softball will hit the road this weekend to face Berry College in a three-game SAA conference series.

The Tigers (16-6-1) opened up their SAA conference play this past weekend, winning the series 2-1 against Rhodes College. Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) had another 5 hit weekend, contributing heavily to the Trinity offense. In the circle, Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove) had a dominant outing, collecting 11 strikeouts, and allowing only 4 runs and 5 hits in 12 total innings. Kriechbaum earned recognition as the SAA Pitcher of the Week for her outstanding performance against the Lynx. This marks the second week in a row that Trinity's pitching staff has earned this accolade.

Preview - SAA Matchup in Mount Berry

The Tigers will play their second SAA series away against the Berry College Vikings on Friday, April 3 at 1 PM and 3 PM, and round out the series on Saturday, April 4 at 9:30 AM.

On the Berry College Vikings: The Vikings (19-5) have had a very strong season so far. Berry's offense is led by senior Elly Bennet, who is hitting .447 with 9 doubles and 20 RBI. Kennedy Moody leads the team in homeruns with 4 so far. The core of their lineup are all hitting above .300, and the team has collected 208 hits and 155 runs already this season. From top to bottom, this Vikings lineup can do some damage. In the circle, freshman JJ Sweat has been dominating with a 1.20 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched. The Tigers will likely face Ava Fouts in the circle as well.

Key to the Series

The Tigers will have to take care of business on defense, because the Vikings aren't going to give them easy outs. On the pitching side, the Tigers' staff should focus on relying on their defense to make their plays and generate outs. Offensively, the Tigers should expect to see some velocity, and therefore should be attacking flat pitches in their zone early. Ultimately, Trinity should focus on controlling the controllables on defense and answering back offensively.

On the Horizon

Next weekend, the Tigers will face Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas on Friday, April 10 and Saturday, April 11.
