Trinity Softball Eyes Battle Against Southwestern

The Trinity Tigers look to keep their momentum as they head to Georgetown on Friday to face Southwestern University.

The Tigers (18-7-1) return from Rome, Georgia with two solid wins against ranked SAA opponent Berry College, securing the series 2-1. The Trinity bats were hot last weekend, scoring 20 total runs and collecting 35 hits on the series. Mariana Garcia (Goodyear, Ariz. / Canyon View) had a fantastic outing at the plate, going 8-10 with 5 RBI and 3 doubles. Garcia's incredible performance earned her recognition as the SAA Player of the Week. Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) also had a productive weekend at the plate, collecting 5 hits and 3 RBI. Junior Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nev. / Academy for Arts Careers and Technology) showed off her power at the plate, hitting a bomb to left field in the Tigers' second game win against the Vikings (her first career home run).
In the circle, Trinity's battery: Koelewyn, Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove), and Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) came together to get the job done for the Tigers.

Preview - Roadtrip to Georgetown

The Tigers will continue their SAA conference play in Georgetown, Texas, facing the Southwestern Pirates on Friday, April 10 at noon and 2 PM, and Saturday, April 11 at 11 AM.

On the Southwestern University Pirates: The Pirates (17-14) are coming off of being swept by Rhodes College in their 3 game series last weekend. Similar to the Tigers, Southwestern came away with two wins against Berry College two weekends ago. The Pirates' offense is led by Daniella Clark, batting .429, and Aryana Dunkelberger, batting .403. Macey Gilman leads the team in doubles, homeruns, and RBI, with 10, 3, and 23, respectively. Allie Fields has Southwestern's wheels on the bases, tabbing 12 stolen bases in 13 attempts.
In the circle, the Tigers will face Sophia Ytuarte, a junior with a 4.15 ERA, as well as Mazlyn Heyer, a junior with a 3.65 ERA. In the relief spot, the Tigers may also see junior Jaden Wheeler, who's only thrown 29.1 innings.

Key to the Series

The Tigers should be both prepared and excited to compete with a familiar face in their new SAA conference, as both teams were formerly members of the SCAC. Overall, the Tigers' offense should be ready to swing at pitches in the zone, as the Pirates' pitching staff hasn't seemed to give up too many walks. On defense, Trinity should be prepared to see some action against an offensively aggressive Southwestern squad. Above all else, the Tigers should aim to continue riding the dominant offensive wave they've been riding recently.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will be back home against Sewanee on April 18th and 19th.
