PALM DESERT, Calif. – Trinity University women's golfer
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) moved into a tie for first place after the second round of the NCAA Division III Championships at Desert Willow Golf Resort.
Mason turned in another impressive performance, firing a one-under-par 71 in Wednesday's second round to climb into a three-way tie atop the individual leaderboard. She carded three birdies on the day and closed the round with a strong back-nine surge.
After opening with two pars, Mason dropped in her first birdie of the round on the par-three third hole to move to one-under. She remained steady through the middle of the front nine before a double bogey on the par-five seventh moved her to one-over at the turn. Mason quickly settled back in on the back nine. She opened the final stretch with five consecutive pars before catching fire late, birdieing the par-four 15th hole to move back to even par. After two more pars, Mason delivered another clutch birdie on the par-five 18th to finish the back nine at two-under and complete the round at one-under overall.
Through two rounds, Mason is tied for first in the field in par-four scoring at 3.90 and leads all players with 10 total birdies.
Mason will tee off Thursday on No. 10 in the final group of the day at 11:10 a.m. PT.
