Box Score San Antonio -- Three Trinity University Tigers women's soccer
players have been named Scholar All-Americans by the National
Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Trinity was one of only four schools to have three honorees on the
College Division Scholar All-America Team.
Senior midfielder Jordan Azar (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X) was
elected to the Scholar All-America First Team. Senior defender
Danika Wright (Alpine, Utah/Lone Peak) and junior forward Abby Loar
(Littleton, Colo./Heritage) made the Scholar All-America Second
Team.
Azar, an economics and finance major, was earlier selected as an
NSCAA Second Team All-American, as well as being named to the
All-Region and All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)
Teams. She accounted for seven goals (one game-winner) and 11
assists during the season.
Wright is a business administration/accounting major. She
previously made the NSCAA All-Region Team, and the All-SCAC First
Team. A 2009 All-American, Wright played a key role in Trinity's
taut defense in 2010, which yielded only 11 goals (.55 per game)
during the season. She scored five goals (two game-winners) and
chalked up two assists.
Loar is an anthropology major, and was elected to the NSCAA
All-America Third Team, in addition to the All-Region and All-SCAC
Teams. She was the Tigers leading scorer, with 16 goals (five
game-winners) and 11 assists. Loar's performance earned her the
distinction of being named the SCAC Offensive Player of the
Year.
Trinity, led by seventh-year head Coach Lance Key, completed
the season with an 18-2-0 overall record, and was 10-0-0 in the
SCAC. The Tigers captured their fifth SCAC Championship under Coach
Key's leadership, and 15th overall. Coach Key was honored by his
peers as the SCAC Coach of the Year for the second straight time,
and the
fourth overall.
Coach Key guided Trinity to its sixth NCAA postseason appearance in
seven years, and 16th overall, as the Tigers advanced to the second
round.
