KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Trinity University women's soccer team had three players recognized with academic awards from the United Soccer Coaches for the 2025 season.
Senior trio
Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll),
Ilsa Newland (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood), and
Bri Werner (Woodbine, Md. / Glenelg) were all named Scholar All-Region players, with Newland and Werner also collecting Scholar All-American recognition.
Khan was a Second Team Scholar All-Region honoree for the first time in her career. She was also named to the All-Southern Athletic Association Second Team and was picked as a Second Team All-Region player by the United Soccer Coaches, picking up All-Conference honors for the third time in her career. Khan was named the SAA Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Tigers to the tournament title. She was a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® award-winner last year and made the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2022, 2023, and 2024. Khan was tied for third on the team with eight goals scored this season, adding six assists to finish with 22 total points.
A First Team Scholar All-Region player and a Third Team Scholar All-American this year, Werner also earned First Team All-SAA recognition and United Soccer Coaches First Team All-Region accolades in 2025. She also made First Team All-Region and First Team All-SCAC last season, as well as earning a spot on the SCAC Academic Honor Roll. Werner was second on the team with 23 total points scored this season, finishing with eight goals and seven assists.
Newland picked up First Team Scholar All-Region and First Team Scholar All-American awards for the first time in her career. She was named the SAA Defensive Athlete of the Year and a First Team All-SAA recipient. In addition to her academic accomplishments from the United Soccer Coaches, Newland was also named a First Team All-Region and Second Team All-American player this season. She was a two-time SAA Defensive Player of the Week and made the SAA All-Tournament Team. Newland led a Tiger defense that recorded 12 shutouts and allowed just 11 goals in 20 games this season, while also adding a career-high five goals on the offensive end of the field.
Trinity finished the season with a 14-2-4 overall record, winning the SAA Regular Season Championship with a 5-0-2 mark in conference play, and winning the SAA Tournament Championship with a pair of shutouts. The Tigers advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Playoffs before falling in overtime.
