Danika Wright (Alpine, Utah/Lone Peak), a defender on the Tigers
women's soccer team, has been awarded a prestigious NCAA
Postgraduate Scholarship.
She became the 31st Tiger student-athlete to earn a Postgraduate
Scholarship. Trinity is ranked in the top-10 for Postgraduate
Scholarships among NCAA Division III schools.
Wright, a business administration/accounting major, will use the
$7,500 award to pursue a master's in accounting at Brigham Young
University.
Talented on the soccer field and in the classroom, Wright has made
Trinity's Dean's List six times during her academic career. She is
a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and has
been selected for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Honor
Roll.
She was named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America
Division III Scholar All-American following the 2010 season. Wright
also was elected to the NSCAA All-Region Team, and the All-SCAC
First Team.
Wright played a key role in Trinity's taut defense in 2010, which
yielded only 11 goals (.55 per game). She contributed to the
offense by scoring five goals (two game-winners), and chalking up
two assists.
In 2009, Wright was selected for the NSCAA All-America First Team.
She was also named the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year.
Trinity, led by seventh-year head Coach Lance Key, completed the
2010 campaign with an 18-2-0 overall record, and was 10-0-0 in the
SCAC. The Tigers captured their fifth SCAC Championship under Coach
Key's leadership, and 15th overall. Coach Key was honored by his
peers as the SCAC Coach of the Year for the second straight time,
and the fourth overall.
Coach Key guided the Tigers to their sixth NCAA postseason
appearance in seven years, and 16th overall, as Trinity advanced to
the second round.
