San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers sophomore Thavindra
Ekanayake (Colombo, Sri Lanka/Visakha Vidyalaya) has been elected
to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Team for the
second straight year.
Voting was conducted exclusively by SCAC head coaches.
Ekanyake mainly played No. 1 singles and doubles for the
25th-ranked Tigers, who completed the season with a 9-9 record. She
was ranked No. 6 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West
Region singles poll. In 2009, Ekanayake won the ITA regional
doubles crown, went on to the National Small College Championships,
and earned All-America honors.
Trinity, led by third-year head Coach Ryan Takao, took third place
at last month's SCAC Championship Tournament at North Little Rock,
Ark.
The Tigers were edged 5-4 by Sewanee:The University of the South in
the semifinals, and then defeated Centre 6-3 to capture
third-place.
