Box Score San Antonio – Trinity's men's
soccer team had six players earn All-Region honors from the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Four Tiger players earned First Team All-Region honors, with one
Trinity player on both the Second and Third Teams. Trinity
won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and
advanced to the NCAA Playoffs, but lost 2-1 to Montclair State in
the NCAA Third Round.
Goalkeeper Matt Cardone and forward Yuri Ribeiro were both First
Team All-Region selections, as well as earning NSCAA All-American
honors. Cardone was a Second Team All-SCAC selection,
recording 69 saves and 11 shutouts to go with his 0.45
goals-against average. Ribeiro earned First Team All-SCAC
honors, and led Trinity with 14 goals, 11 assists, and 39 total
points this season. He also earned NSCAA All-American honors
in 2010.
Joining the Tiger duo on the All-Region First Team were
midfielder Darren McAfee and defender Denny Mask. McAfee
finished with three goals and six assists this season, while Mask
anchored a Trinity defense that allowed just 14 goals in 24
games. Mask was also an All-Region selection last year,
and was a 2010 NSCAA All-American.
Defensive midfielders Michael Micheletti and Tom Carwile also
earned All-Region honors. Micheletti was the SCAC Tournament
Defensive Most Valuable Player, earning Second Team All-Region
honors. Carwile, a first-year player for the Tigers, was
named to the Third Team.
Head Coach Paul McGinlay led the Tiger men to their 11th
consecutive appearance in the NCAA Playoffs, and the
program's 15th SCAC Championship in his 22 seasons with the
team. Coach McGinlay is one of the most successful coaches in
Division III history, earning 369 victories, and came into the 2012
season as the winningest active coach – in any NCAA division
– with his .831 winning percentage.
