San Antonio - The fourth-ranked Trinity
Tigers women's soccer team extended its winning streak to
nine games with a 3-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference
shutout of the Southwestern Pirates Tuesday night.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, remained undefeated
with an 11-0-1 overall record, and a 6-0-0 mark in the SCAC. The
Tigers also posted their eighth shutout victory in the past nine
games. Southwestern dropped to 5-7-0 and 4-2-0 SCAC. The two teams
will meet again on Nov. 1 in Georgetown, Texas, in a regular-season
finale.
Michelle Lanier was first in the scoring column, in the
23rd minute, for her seventh goal of the season, and second
game-winner. Emily Jorgens supplied the assist, and moved up in the
Trinity record books. Jorgens, who has recorded nine assists this
season, became only the second Tiger player to post 40 assists in a
career.
Mariah Risk fired in a goal in the 34th minute, on an
assist from Shelby Hopkins. The final scoring play of the matchup
came in the 64th minute, when Kelsey Falcone and Kirby
Peddicord combined for the goal. Falcone now has six goals on the
season.
Starting goalkeeper Lauren Goldberg made two saves in the game,
while Devan Osegueda added one in the second half.
Trinity will begin the University's Alumni Weekend on
Friday, with an SCAC game with the University of Dallas at 5 p.m.
The Tigers wrap up their regular-season home campaign on Monday,
Oct. 14, with Our Lady of the Lake University at 7:00 pm.
