San Antonio - Seniors Kelsey Falcone and
Kirby Peddicord headed a group of 11 players who received
All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer
honors, and Head Coach Lance Key also earned top honors.
Coach Key was named the SCAC Women's Soccer
Tri-Coach of the Year. Falcone was elected the SCAC Offensive
Player of the Year, and Peddicord was named Defensive Player of the
Year.
It marked the seventh time in 11 seasons Coach
Key was honored by his peers as the league's top coach. He guided
Trinity to a ninth SCAC title under his mentorship, and sixth in a
row. Third-ranked Trinity defeated Texas Lutheran University
3-0 on November 9 to claim the title on its home turf.
Falcone was earlier chosen as the SCAC
Tournament Offensive Most Valuable Player for the second
consecutive year. This season, Falcone has produced 18 goals
and 14 assists, for 50 points. Falcone and senior Emily Jorgens
became the only two players in Trinity history to chalk up more
than 40 career goals and assists. With this year's selection,
Falcone is now a four-time All-SCAC recipient.
Peddicord, also a four-time All-SCAC honoree, anchored
a non-forgiving Tiger defense which has allowed only six goals, an
average of 0.29 per game. She contributed one goal and three
assist to the offensive cause, in addition to anchoring a unit that
has shut out its opponents 15 times this season.
Jorgens joined her teammates on the All-SCAC
First Team. The four-time all-conference recipient has a
team-leading 19 goals and 26 assists, for 64 points. The two-time
SCAC Offensive Player of the Year became Trinity's all-time
leading career scorer, with 59 goals, in Trinity's 7-0 win
over Austin College in the SCAC semifinals. Jorgens earlier broke
Trinity's career record for assists and points
scored.
Seniors Devan Osegueda, Shelby Hopkins, and
Hannah Kuhl, along with junior Kimberly Polasek were all on the
All-SCAC First Team as well. Osegueda is a two-time
All-Conference selection, while Hopkins was the SCAC
Tournament Defensive MVP this season. Polasek earned honors
for the second time.
Junior Maggie Olvera received the nod for the All-SCAC
Second Team. All-SCAC Honorable Mention recognition went to junior
Emily Donnan, sophomore Yasmeen Farra, and first-year player
Colleen Markey.
The Tigers earned the conference automatic bid
to the NCAA Division III Playoffs, and currently stands 20-0-1 this
season. Coach Key will guide his team to the tournament for
the 10th time. Trinity will host the first and second rounds
Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers meet the University of Texas-Tyler
at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. The winner plays in
Sunday's second round at 5:00 p.m., against the winner
of Hardin-Simmons University and the University of Redlands.
