Box Score San Antonio - Trinity Tiger
senior Matt Cardone and junior Tom Carwile have been elected to the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental
Tire NCAA Men's Division III All-America Team.
Cardone was named to the All-America First Team
for the second time as a goalkeeper, while fellow defensive
player Carwile was an All-America Second Team honoree.
Both players were recently selected for the
NSCAA All-West Region Team, and to the All-Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference (SCAC) Team.
Cardone, who also earned All-America First
Team accolades in 2012, posted 79 saves and yielded only 14 goals
during his 25 games at the net this season. His 0.63 goal-against
average was ranked 31st out of 200 players in the NCAA, while his
save percentage of 0.85 held a No. 32 ranking. Cardone also
accounted for eight of Trinity's shutout wins.
Carwile anchored the taut Tiger defense which
permitted just 17 goals over a 26-game season, for a team GAA of
0.65 - which ranks 25th nationally among more than 400 schools.
Carwile was earlier named the SCAC Tournament Defensive Most
Valuable Player, as Trinity defeated Colorado College 2-1 to win
its 17th conference championship, and third in a row. Offensively,
Carwile scored six goals (with two game-winners) and dished out two
assists, for 14 points.
Trinity is led by Head Coach Paul McGinlay, who
finished with a school record-tying 24 wins this year (24-2-0
overall). He also led the Tigers to a second-place ranking in
Division III with 85 goals scored, as well as fifth in goals per
game (3.27 goals per game). For his efforts, Coach McGinlay
was elected the NSCAA West Region Coach of the Year for the ninth
time in his career, as well as the second consecutive
time.
Following the SCAC Tournament victory, the Tigers
headed to the NCAA Playoffs for the 13th straight time (18th in the
last 19 years). Trinity advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals,
earning wins over Hardin-Simmons (2-1), UT-Dallas (1-0), and Loras
(1-0). The Tigers fell to NCAA runner-up Wheaton (IL)
College, which hosted the NCAA Sectionals. This season marked
the ninth trip to the quarterfinals for the Trinity men's soccer
program, as well as the second consecutive.
