Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity
Tigers women's golf team, led by Head Coach and Director of
Golf Carla Spenkoch, will compete in the five-team Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship April 21-22 in Boerne,
Texas.
The Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort &
Spa Golf Course will serve as the site of the two-round stroke-play
event. The Tigers open play at 8:40 a.m. on Monday

Trinity is ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III
by Golfstat. Southwestern University holds a No. 17 ranking, while
Schreiner University is 23rd. Centenary College stands at No. 39,
and Texas Lutheran rounds out the field at No. 90.
Last year, the Tigers finished in second place
at the SCAC Championship held at Shreveport, Louisiana. Trinity
posted its best finish since the 2005 season. Southwestern won the
event by four strokes over the Tigers, who made up eight strokes
from the opening round.
Trinity sophomore Brigette Lee posted the low
score of the individual tournament. Lee, then a first-year
student-athlete, was named the SCAC Women's Golf Player of
the Year. She was also selected as the SCAC Women's Golf
Freshman of the Year, becoming just the second player in conference
history to win both awards in one season. Lee was Trinity's
lone representative on the All-SCAC First Team, as well.
Four Tiger players earned All-SCAC Second Team
honors, including junior Alessa Hutter (tied for seventh place) and
sophomore Madeline Moran (tied for 10th place).
Hutter and Lee were among four Trinity players
named as Women's Golf Coaches Association Division III
All-American Scholars.
The Tigers began this season by finishing fifth
at the UMHB Lady Cru Fall Invitational at Temple, Texas. Christine
Campbell, one of four first-year golfers on the team, jumped from
an eighth-place slot to finish third in the event. First-year Hanna
Niner, playing as an individual, finished in a tie for ninth
place.
Trinity produced a respectable sixth-place
finish at the 17-team Golfweek Division III Fall Invitational
Tournament at Destin, Florida. The Tigers were just five strokes
behind defending NCAA champion Mary Hardin-Baylor. Campbell
captured eighth place, and Niner finished in a tie for 21st. Lee
tied for the No. 36 position. while Moran was in a tie for 42nd
place.
Trinity placed fourth at its Alamo City Classic
in Spring Branch, Texas. Hutter, competing as an individual, came
in tied for ninth place, while Campbell stood alone in the No. 13
position.
The next tournament, the Schreiner Spring
Shootout at Kerrville, Texas, was an improvement for the Tigers, as
Trinity finished in third place. Niner held the No. 3 line, and Lee
tied for 12th place. Campbell finished at No. 17, and Hutter came
in at No. 24. First-year Yanina Soudaly, playing as an individual,
improved her score by 16 strokes and wrapped up the tournament at
No. 29.
In the spring, the Tigers traveled to Jekyll
Island, Georgia, to compete in the prestigious Jekyll Island
Women's Collegiate Invitational. Trinity finished the
three-round event in seventh place, among 20 teams. Niner had
Trinity's best finish, at No. 6, and Lee tied for 23rd place
among some 120 golfers.
Georgetown, Texas, was the setting for the West
Region Invitational, where the Tigers placed fifth. Campbell tied
for 20th place, Niner finished in a tie for the No. 26 slot, Lee
tied for 30th, and Hutter was in a tie for the No. 34
position.
Trinity won the inaugural SCAC Women's Golf
Championship in 1995, and has finished as runner-up on five
occasions (1996, 1998, 2004, 2005, 2013).
