San Antonio - Trinity's second-ranked
women's soccer team began its 2014 campaign with a 7-1 victory over
the College of St. Scholastica (MN) on Friday evening.
The Tigers held a 32-8 advantage in shots on the night,
beginning with an 18-2 first half. Trinity scored four times
in the first 45 minutes, and All-American Emily Jorgens had a hand
in each of the tallies.
Jorgens scored the opening goal in the fourth minute of action,
then assisted on Kelsey Falcone's eventual game-winner in the 22nd
minute. First-year Colleen Markey scored the game's third
goal on another assist from Jorgens in the 37th minute.
Jorgens then finished the scoring in 41st minute.
The second half belonged to more of Trinity's first-year class,
as all goals and assists came from Tiger newcomers. Hannah
Booher opened the second-half scoring in the 48th minute, assisted
by Tierney Thomison and Abby Tisdale. Tisdale then netted an
unassisted goal in the 65th minute.
St. Scholastica got on the board with Kirsten Olsen's goal in
the 66th, breaking up Trinity's bid for a clean sheet to begin the
year.
Ruby Tedeschi wrapped up the game's scoring for the Tigers,
assisted by Meredith Licata in the 83rd minute of action.
Goalkeeper Devan Osegueda didn't allow a goal in the opening
period, earning the win for Trinity. Kelsey Reeves recorded
13 saves for the Saints, but did allow six goals to the prolific
Tiger offense.
Trinity returns to action next weekend, traveling to Georgia for
a pair of road games against Emory University and Berry College.
The Tigers face Emory on Friday night (7:00 PM Eastern),
followed by a Sunday afternoon matchup with Berry (12:00 PM
Eastern).
