Former Trinity Runner Wins San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

Box Score

San Antonio - Trinity alumnus Mark Greene '14 emerged as the men's winner of the Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon on Sunday.

The former Tiger cross country standout ran the 26-miles-plus race in 2 hours, 31.31 minutes. Greene, from San Antonio, finished a minute and a half ahead of runner-up David Rodriguez. Starting and finishing at the Alamodome, Greene registered a pace of 5:47 per mile.

Greene earned All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Cross Country honors in 2012, finishing seventh in the SCAC Championships. The Tiger team captured its first-ever SCAC Championship, and later finished second at the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Championship. Trinity advanced for the first time to the NCAA Championships, where the Tigers placed 32nd at nationals.

Greene's personal coach is Trinity's Volunteer Assistant Cross Country Coach Jeremy Daum '08, himself an excellent marathon runner. Emily Daum '09, the Tiger Head Cross Country Coach, served as an assistant during Greene's all-conference and nationals runs. Emily Daum was a four-time All-American at Trinity, in both cross country and track & field.

Approximately 25,000 runners participated in the weekend events, highlighted by the Marathon and Half Marathon. Mile No. 6 cut through the Trinity campus, and Trinitonians showed their Tiger Pride! The runners headed down Stadium Drive and entered campus near the Intramural Field, and exited on Shook, just west of Prassel Residence Hall. They were cheered on by President Danny Anderson, student groups, Greeks, Hope Hall residents, cultural groups, athletics teams, and Trinity staff, parents, faculty and alumni. The Trinity Stand Band and Tiger Cheerleaders welcomed the participants to campus, as did members of KRTU-Radio.

Residential Life staff members played major roles in the event, as did Dean of Students David Tuttle. An inveterate runner, Tuttle completed the Half Marathon in 1:54.57. He organized the Eighth Annual Dean of Students Half Marathon Challenge. Participants spearheaded the Kayla Mire Food Drive, named in memory of the late Trinity graduate who died in 2010.
