Box Score San Antonio - Former Trinity golfer Brigette Lee of Shavano Park, Texas, has been elected the 2016 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Woman of the Year.
Selected by conference Senior Woman Administrators from seven finalists, the SCAC Woman of the Year award honors senior student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, and service and leadership. Lee will now be nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year accolade, to be recognized October 16 at Indianapolis, Indiana.
Lee earned a Bachelor of Science degree in May from Trinity, with a major in biochemistry and molecular biology. She received summa cum laude (with highest honor) kudos, and plans to attend the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Last month, Lee was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Division III Academic All-America At-Large Third Team for the second consecutive occasion, and to the Academic All-District 8 Team for the third time in a row. Lee was also a three-time honoree as a Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar.
A gifted student-athlete, Lee qualified for the All-SCAC Women's Golf Team for four years. In April, Lee tied for seventh place at the conference championship, and garnered All-SCAC Second Team recognition. The Tigers captured their second SCAC Championship over the last three seasons. Additionally, Lee was selected for the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Lee placed 10th in the 2015 conference championships, for All-SCAC Second Team honors. She finished third in 2014, and made the All-SCAC First Team. Lee ignited the Tigers to the SCAC title that year. Lee opened her collegiate career by winning the individual SCAC Championship in 2013. She was named the SCAC Women's Golfer of the Year, and the SCAC Freshman Golfer of the Year.
Lee was the 2016 recipient of the Trinity University/Ian Thompson Award for Academic Excellence for Premedical Studies. She has served as president and vice president of Trinity's American Medical Student Association. Active in community service, Lee has volunteered at the Teen Medical Academy, Methodist Hospital, Faith Family Clinic, and First Tee Golf Program.
With her selection, Lee became the fifth Trinity recipient of the SCAC Woman of the Year award. Emily Jorgens of Tiger soccer received the distinction in 2015, and Abigail Loar, also a soccer player, was honored in 2012. Diver Hayley Emerick was the 2011 honoree, and track & field's Christyn Schumann earned the award in 2006.
