Box Score IRVING, Texas – No. 7/9 Trinity University Women's Soccer continued its offensive explosion from Friday night with a 6-0 victory in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play at University of Dallas in large part due to the first career hat trick for sophomore Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford), completed in the 66' of action.
The Tigers (9-0-1, 5-0-0 SCAC), winners of eight-straight, got on the board quickly in Sunday's competition as Bosco posted the first of her trio within the first 10 minutes, and followed up with her second in the 23'. The sophomore's hat trick was completed as Trinity's fifth goal of the game near the middle of the second half.
The Tiger trio of first-year Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll), senior Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) and junior Maya Ozymy (Dallas, Texas / Coppell) equaled Bosco's effort, as they connected in the 31', 61' and 74', respectively.
Sophomore keeper Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) received the nod between the posts for the seventh time this season and remained undefeated for her sixth victory and fifth combined shutout alongside junior Joey Finley (Albuquerque, N.M. / Early College) who maintained the clean sheet for the latter 45 minutes.
No. 7/9 Trinity Women's Soccer remains on the road next weekend to visit Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University for continued SCAC action.
The Rundown
Unlike the weekend opener at Austin College, the Tigers wasted no time getting the attack in motion as Bosco struck in the 10'. A strong free kick from 10 yards ahead of the center line by junior Ashlyn Zingelmann (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis), coupled with a well-placed header from senior Alana Wickham (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall), opened up a lane for Bosco from the left post.
A swipe by senior Emma Everts (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa) in the Dallas back line gave way to the second goal from Bosco just before the midway point of the first period as Everts's touch split the Crusader defenders toward the right post for the sophomore striker to capitalize.
In the 31', Khan collected her fourth goal of the season off her own rebound in the box fighting off two defenders and the keeper. By halftime, the Tigers put eight shots on frame, four from Bosco and two from Khan with both coming in the lead-up to the first-year's score.
After a Crusader corner created a loose ball in the 51', junior Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) escaped with space and found Bosco on a breakaway for the first quality attempt at the hat trick but could not fool the Dallas keeper with her fifth shot on frame.
Trinity broke the second-half seal as a pair of Kirkwood High School graduates of St. Louis, Missouri connected for the fourth tally of the match in the 61'. First-year Ilsa Newland broke away from a scrum at the centerline and found Sheridan charging through the middle of the back line. Sheridan juked the Crusader keeper at the top of the box for a wide-open strike from the right post.
The hat trick finally came for Bosco five minutes later as Sheridan collected a loose ball ahead of the midfield stripe and found the sophomore streaking up the middle who left her sixth attempt on frame in the lower-left corner of the net.
To finish off the explosive weekend in North Texas, Ozymy posted her fourth goal in three matches in the 74' as she redirected a hard pass from junior Reese Wallace (Oak Park, Calif. / Oak Park) tight to the right post.
Notable Numbers
Bosco's hat trick is the first of the 2022 campaign, and the 10th for the Tigers since the start of the 2018 season.
In combination with the Trinity men's home victory, 3-1, over Southwestern Sunday afternoon, Bosco and Joseph Kuri recorded the first time the Tigers have posted a hat trick in both the women's and men's matches on the same day since September 22, 2017.
