No. 7/8 Women's Soccer Caps Road Weekend With Shutout Win

Box Score

SHREVEPORT, La. – The No. 7/8 Tiger women's soccer team secured its 15th consecutive victory and 12th straight shutout by defeating Centenary College 4-0 in a Sunday Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

Trinity improved to 16-0-1 overall and 12-0-0 in SCAC play with today's win, while Centenary falls to 2-15-1 and 2-10-0 in conference. The Tigers had three different players score three first-half goals and never looked back.

Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood) paced Trinity with a goal in each half, capped by a penalty kick goal less than two minutes into the final period. Sheridan now has four games this season with two goals scored and all of come in the last six team games for the Tigers.

Trinity's defense allowed just three second-half shots in the game, which is five straight games during which the team has allowed three shots or less. In fact, during the 12-game shutout streak, the Tigers have not allowed more than four shots in a single game.

Trinity will finish off the regular season schedule by hosting its final SCAC games of the year next weekend. The Tigers will welcome in the second and third place teams in the standings, currently, beginning with Southwestern University on Friday. The regular season concludes with a game against Texas Lutheran University on Sunday.

The Rundown

Trinity got on the board in the 14th minute, scoring on just the fourth overall shot taken in the game. As the Tigers were pushing forward, a Centenary defender deflected a ball towards the top of the box where Sheridan gained control. She played it back to Emma Everts (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa), who beat one defender to the ball and back towards the box. Everts then dribbled around a second defender to the top of the 18-yard box and slipped a pass back to her teammate. After passing the ball to Everts, Sheridan had moved unmarked into the box ahead of the play. Sheridan took the pass at the corner of the six-yard box and clanged her shot in off the post for the 1-0 Trinity lead.

Just over 15 minutes later, Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) rifled a strong shot from about 25 yards out that was saved by Centenary's goalkeeper. The Tigers did get a corner out of the sequence, which eventually led to the second goal. Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) took the corner and played it low and to the near post, where Trinity played it right back to Stafford for another cross. This time she lofted it towards goal, where Bosco headed it in from five yards out for the 2-0 lead.

In the 39th minute, Cassie Bowers (Lafayette, La. / Episcopal School of Acadiana) won the ball near midfield and immediately pushed the ball out to the right side and into the Centenary half of the field. From there, the Tigers pushed back to the middle of the field to find Maya Ozymy (Dallas, Texas / Coppell). Ozymy angled the ball behind Centenary's defense to find Hannah Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) racing down the right side. Khan's run brought the keeper out just enough, and she smashed her shot into the back of the net for what would be the final score of the period.

Shortly after halftime, Trinity won a throw-in that came to Bosco at the corner of the box. Bosco turned and drove towards goal to find an open Sheridan, who then drew two defenders as she turned towards the six-yard box. Sheridan was taken down for a penalty, then she converted the kick to give Trinity a 4-0 lead. That wound up being the final goal of the game, though Trinity went on to have 13 more shots in the period.

Numbers to Note

Sheridan moved up to ninth in school history with her 44th and 45th career goals on Sunday. She passes Kaity Ward (2018-21) on the all-time list with today's scores. Only eight players in school history have ever scored 50 or more career goals.

Bosco and Sheridan are also tied for the team lead with 16 goals this year, which is tied for 21st in school history for a single season. Both are also already in the top 25 all-time for single season points scored.
