SAN ANTONIO – No. 7/9 Trinity University Women's Soccer will play host to the 2022 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship November 4-6 at Paul McGinlay Field. Trinity has earned the top seed in the upcoming event through an undefeated regular-season campaign.
The Tigers (18-0-1, 14-0 SCAC) finished its regular season on a 22-match undefeated streak in such contests that dates back to early October 2021, along with a 33-match undefeated streak at home that features just one draw.
Trinity is one of eight undefeated teams in NCAA III this season, and the only one with more than 16 victories. Through the regular season, the Tigers rank second in NCAA III in goals-against average (0.105) thanks to a 14-match shutout streak since September 18. During this Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) has kept the defensive third clean.
The forward trio of senior Molly Sheridan (St. Louis, Mo. / Kirkwood), sophomore Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford) and first-year Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) have wreaked havoc throughout the season as all three are well-into double digits in goals: 18, 16 and 14, respectively.
Sheridan is 14th in NCAA III with 18 goals in 2022, which puts her in a tie for eighth all-time in program history with 47 goals for her career. Bosco and Khan rank 27th and 42nd in NCAA III, respectively, at their totals while the trio stands first, second and fourth in the SCAC. Trinity claims four of the top five scorers in the league as seven goals from sophomore Maya Ozymy (Dallas, Texas / Coppell) rounds out the SCAC's top five.
No. 7/9 Women's Soccer opens the 2022 SCAC Championship in a semifinal match with fourth-seed Schreiner University Friday at 5:00 p.m. CT. The two-versus-three matchup of Texas Lutheran University and Southwestern University will follow Friday evening.
NCAA III Rankings – Up in D3soccer.com, Down in United Soccer Coaches
After spending last week as NCAA III's consensus eighth-ranked squad by D3soccer.com and United Soccer Coaches, the Tigers were elevated to seven by the NCAA III's media poll and dropped to ninth by the nation's coaches.
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor is the only other Region 10 competitor to be ranked by both polls (13th by United Soccer Coaches, 15th by D3soccer.com). Pacific Lutheran University (WA) and University of Puget Sound (WA) both appeared in this week's D3soccer.com rankings: 17th and 24th, respectively.
NCAA III Regional Rankings – Nothin' New Here
Trinity still has its stranglehold over Region 10 in the latest regional rankings provided by the NCAA on Wednesday. UMHB sits second as one of the nation's other undefeated squads, while Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound fall in line at third and fourth ahead of the final regular-season weekend of Northwest Conference action.
A second American Southwest Conference member, Hardin-Simmons University, and Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leader Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (CA) sit fifth and sixth in Region 10, followed by SCIAC two-seed California Lutheran University.
SCAC Players of the Week: Bailey Meyer (Def.), Hanna Khan (Off.)
Meyer and Khan combined to sweep the SCAC weekly honors for Trinity Women's Soccer this week. Meyer captained another pair of shutout weekends that featured just three shot attempts for 180 minutes, over the second- and third-leading scoring teams in the league. Khan posted a trio of goals on the other end of the pitch, scoring twice in Sunday's victory over Texas Lutheran.
Preview: 2022 SCAC Championship
The Tigers will open the SCAC Championship Friday at 5 p.m. against Schreiner, a matchup that averaged five goals per contest in two meetings this season, though with almost polar-opposite storylines.
The visit to Kerrville, Texas to open league competition on September 9 featured just a 1-0 result that went scoreless for nearly 80 minutes before the second goal of Khan's collegiate career found the back of the net.
The second meeting saw Bosco's second hat trick of the season, and her career, as she poured in four of Trinity's nine goals in the shutout effort. The second matchup with the Mountaineers was the start of a five-day stretch that featured three matches and a combined 20-0 scoring margin for the Tigers.
The championship final will await the victor of this match, and the Texas Lutheran-Southwestern matchup later that evening. Trinity hosted the two travel partners last weekend, defeating Southwestern Friday, 5-0, and TLU Sunday, 4-0. The Bulldogs and Pirates traded a pair of 2-1 results, both in favor of the home teams, on September 16 at Southwestern and on October 11 at Texas Lutheran.
