Trinity Baseball Fifth in NCAA Region X Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The second week of NCAA III Baseball rankings were released today and the Trinity University baseball team debuted in fifth place on the Region X list.

The seven teams appearing in the rankings came mainly from Texas and California, with Pacific University (OR) being the lone exception. East Texas Baptist University was the top-ranked team, followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (CA) in second. The University of La Verne (CA) was fourth ahead of Trinity, with Chapman University (CA), and Texas Lutheran University rounding out the seven ranked teams.

Trinity did not appear in last week's rankings, which were listed in alphabetical order instead of rank order. The Tigers made the list on the strength of last weekend's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, which Trinity completing with a 3-0 record and its first SCAC Tournament title since 2019. The No. 2 seed Tigers defeated No. 3 seed Centenary College (LA) 5-2 in the opening game, then knocked off top seed Texas Lutheran 10-1 in Saturday's semifinals. The Bulldogs advanced back into Sunday's Championship for a rematch against the Tigers, and Trinity took a 13-6 victory.

There were eight Tigers named to the SCAC All-Tournament Team, while a total of 12 Trinity baseball players earned All-SCAC honors this year.

As this year's SCAC Champion, Trinity also receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs. The Tigers have now reached the postseason event in four straight years (not counting the canceled 2020 season), which includes last year's appearance in the NCAA III College World Series. That marked the third such appearances for Trinity, which made the final site in both 2015 and 2016, and won the NCAA III National Championship in 2016.
